Clear Burglar Bars

It appears to burn quite easily. We heard noises in the night and got up to look. We did not realize anything was wrong until the next morning when we found the burn marks / melted plastic.

I'm not sure about how easy it would be but, to buy/steal and carry a blowtorch costs more and takes up more room and therefore unlikely to be in the thieves arsenal. They usually use whatever they can find in your garden to break in. I can tell you now it's a hell of a lot easier to use a broom stick or metal pole and pop metal bars than it is to try to bend and move flexible bars.

Either way, if you install a good window then they won't even get to the burglar bars (my bars are on the inside). They bent my window frame but couldn't force the window open :) They broke my door open but couldn't get past the security gate :D

I'd love to see you try. :)

Guy did it at my mothers house. The guy was still standing by the window waiting to see if anyone heard him. Made a minimal amount of noise, but luckily just enough for my mother to hear it and she went to check. She watched the guy standing at the window for about a minute.

Don't for a second think that your burglar bars are stopping anyone. They are but a minor inconvenience, a deterrent at best, but because burglar bars are common on all houses thieves had to up their game and now they know how to remove them quickly and easily while making as little noise as possible.

As many people have said on this forum, all these things are just another layer in the bigger picture of security. You need to basically layer up the security to make it not worth the hassle.

That is going to be one hell of a broom stick. Unless of course you are referring to that rubbish burglar bars you buy at game and pop rivet to the frame. I would pay to see you take out my custom burglar bars with a broom. I have proper 12mm steel rods, sunk into 25mm square tube, with recessed 8*75mm masonry nails at least 5 per side.

Well... we have never been broken into before, and this was their first attempt. No idea what they were carrying in their arsenal to try and burn them.

Most of these can be hooked into your alarm system.

If they are broken the alarm trips and it's much more effort to remove/break than conventional option as hard as that might be to believe.

But if they do manage it the alarm goes off, unlike with regular metal bars.

Burglar bars are more a threat to you than anything else these days. As in, they will likely keep you locked in your place if you have a fire, rather than deter any semi-competent burglar.

Spikes/electrical fence on perimeter wall, and then garden beams and garden beams and garden beams. Then passives (motion detectors) inside the house. Every room.

And a security company linked to the alarm. Alarm must not be linked to telephone, but have a radio transmitter - that can tell the security company which zone has been set off. Or that you can see on the alarm pad when you in your bedroom safe-zone.

And then camera's also help. Tend to make them go somewhere else.

One should have smoke detector alarms anyway (even if you don't have burglar bars) which will warn you (even from sleep). Also have at least 1 x 2.5 or 4.5kg fire extinguisher too. I'll keep my burglar bars up, it means someone can't just throw a brick thought the window and step inside...

My father's friends' son and his family burnt to death because of that. It should be law that there are gates built in that locks so that people can get out in case of a fire. I know people who have those.

Apparently you get imitation ones and supposedly the real deal?

resurrecting this thread - anyone got these polycarbonate burglar bars?
Are you happy with them?
Do you have a basic install (screwed / riveted to window frame) or the advanced install where the bars are installed in their own frame?

Both my folks and in-laws have these, specially the Trellidoor ones. They are bolted into the concrete and not the window frame.
I wouldn't rate them as particularly secure.. better than the pop rivet ones sure.

I had the Terillidoor cottage guard installed last year and it was cheaper than the Trelli clear bars! And I'm told way stronger. Very different look however
