Hmmmm you seem to be forgetting that we savage and eat animals. Why is it that we compare their actions towards us, and our actions towards ourselves as the same thing? If we are comparing apples with apples. Then we should compare our actions towards them. ie Cross species interactions.
Even comparing human on human interaction. Most humans, given the right circumstances, will savage each other no problem.

We are capable of some truly horrific action. From the Romans who reveled in the mindless butchering of slaves to the genocides of the 20th century, we can do some effed up schit given half the chance.

You don't even have to look into history. Just look at the world we currently live in and how many regions have widespread rape, kidnapping of children to serve as child soldiers, child brides, honour killings etc.

Animals are there for us. We use them for food, clothing, and entertainment. But we should try to be merciful to them as much as we can.
