Just a quick one. For no reason whatsoever I started my PC today and its asking me to log on to Netware (hard to describe, but I have to choose a server etc of which there is none).

Also in control panel I see client service for netware. Im the only user on my pc although I am hooked up to a small home LAN extending to another house on the same property.

Any idea what it is and if I should be concerned, I thought to post first and I am going to research a bit as well. Google says it has something to do with changing users on XP??

I never installed anything new...wtf???

Am just thinking maybe the user next door has installed something and it affects the LAN although he says he cant recall anything that would have done this? Thats all I can find out at the moment so its probably something else. I did do a security update on his XP yesterday to fix an annoying error he kept getting on startup.

Interesting.

I assume you are running XP then.

Only way to get Novell services is to run the Novell installer... or else somebody was messing around with Remote Desktop or something like that, it just doesn't happen by itself.

Maybe your PC is compromised? - said haxxor thought he was uploading a r00tkit, but uploaded and installed the Novell client instead :D :D

Well I recently formatted XP so by default remote connections are disabled. I have no dodgy ports open as far as Im aware. Haven't been browsing porn or anything stupid.

Only thing I have used the net for since format is download of nvidia drivers from 3dguru, myadsl, steam for wtcc racing game and a google search for some info :/

Weird, and also I dont see an uninstall option anywhere. Any suggestions would be appreciated if anyone knows what is going on :) Thanks for reply TL

Oh yes I am running XP SP2--still a little unclear as to what it is, now it seems like a server type app. Is it like Apache??! Or an app to control a network?

I see sharing drives with it and accessing databases with it :/ eish

Client services for netware is a microsoft client that comes with XP professional. It is used for logging on to Novell Netware networks. You won't need it in a home environment.

You probably accidentally selected it during installation. No biggie. Just remove it and you'll be fine.
