Cliff - Right or Wrong?

Did Gareth Cliff overstep the line in terms of how far one can go on-air?

No he did not. You're trying to put words that he didn't say into his mouth. Let's concentrate on what he did actually say.

Look, either he committed blasphemy or he didn't. The real question is: why should it matter?

Whether he said "God IS petty" or "such a god WOULD BE petty" is completely immaterial. He has a perfect right to say either of those two things, and so does everyone else.

In my humble opinion Blasphemy was no longer illegal since the previous government was kicked out...

I am now allowed to dislike your opinion and even voice that in public. I cannot for the life of me see what he did wrong..

I really dislike the guy but he does get my backing in this one..

it's about time religions went underground again I think

religion divides the world. it causes people to hate each other, and in extreme cases, kill each other. it is the biggest form of brainwashing ever, since it requires no proof to materialise its desires. but on the other hand, it gives us guidelines, morals, principles and standards to live by. else we would live like animals. oh wait, too late for that. we already are animals. without religion, everyone lives under the same roof. no enemies. no religiously-motivated, senseless murders.

I don't agree.

People should be free to have their religions, they should even be free to have organized religion but all religions should not be afforded any more protection that any other cult or belief nor should religion be taught at school unless it is presented in a theology class along with all the alternatives.

agreed...

Also brainwashing my children at school should be means for suspension... The nursery rhyme does not go

Baa Baa Black Sheep have you any fear.
No sir no sir god is near.

I find it interesting that religious people think they need religion in order to have moral principles. It's like they're saying if they didn't have the threat of eternal damnation hanging over their heads they wouldn't have any morals, principles or standards. No thanks, my morals and principles come from inside myself, not because I'm being threatened by some invisible man in the sky!

Um, when I said "religious people" I wasn't referring to you Mercurial

What I don't understand is why these religious people are listening to Gareth anyway:

The type of jokes he makes and the music played is definitely not condoned by their God.

Secondly he is bound to offend you regarding religion. Everybody that listens to him knows his stance on these issues.

If an oven plate is hot and you know it is going to burn you why touch it (and then cry about it)?

i agree with you. never thought of it like that actualy :)
i thought of it like this - without some form of guidance on what is acceptable, how would we know what is right and wrong? but i get ur point.

Your taxes pay for his salary seeing as 5FM is a government radio station.

I think he should be a bit more careful in his diatribes.

Well considering my tax money is being spent on SAFM Sundays, "Songs of praise" I dont understand why I have to listen to that but not another perspective on it. I get the religious stuff jammed down my throat but its not okay for someone to have another point of view?

Doesnt that sound odd?
