"Women produce up to 80 percent of the food in the developing world as here in South Africa, and especially in Polokwane," the minister said.
She said in the case of all the wars in Africa women were on the frontline of picking up the pieces, and were the carriers of development, ensuring the survival of communities.
"It is known that in Africa, women do 90 percent of the work of gathering water and food. Children that are girls often share these responsibilities.
Bwahahaha. Wot a silly story. Premised on the loopy notion that human beings have anything to do with climate change.
I must say though this story seems a bit far-fetched. I'm pretty sure sure most (especially South African) farmers are men. Unless they mean workers in food factories?
Have you ever visited a rural village? Guess who does the farming.... certainly not the men!![]()
And they produce how many tonnes, in total, compared to commercial farms? Subsistence farming cannot compare to the real thing at all, so I don't know how a minister can spew such absolute nonsense. That's like saying a few guys building kit cars in their garages produce 80% of vehicles in SA.
Women in rural areas are highly dependent on local natural resources for their livelihood. The effects of climate change would make it harder to secure these resources.
We are not discussing commercial farms, we are discussing the role of the woman as a food gatherer in rural SA.
In line with their culture.
Why the uncontrollable urge to expropriate the remaining 20% of productive farms?"Women produce up to 80 percent of the food in the developing world as here in South Africa, and especially in Polokwane," the minister said.
