Hey,

Who offers vouchers when signing up.

I'm looking at buying some winter clothes and if I can score with free vouchers then why not...

Open clothing account > get vouchers > buy clothes > pay off immediately.

Why waste my money, when I can waste theirs :D

I am very much against buying clothes on credit for whatever reason.

Regarding the vouchers, your plan will backfire because this is how it works:

Truworths offers R800 shopping voucher for new accounts, But you can only use R100 of that voucher on purchases of R1000 or above. This means that in order to fully utilise the 'voucher' you will have bought clothing items to the value of R8000 or more... You still save R800, after spending a cool R7200 ...

Most clothing shops do. I know Edgars and Truworths do it. The catch is the vouchers are valid for different periods. Let's say one each for May, June and July.

No. The "correct" solution is to wait until the very last minute to pay it off. The cost of providing "free" credit is already factored into the purchase price so you'd need to buy on credit and pay on the very last day to maximize your financial gains / minimize losses.

All of which assumes rock solid discipline which most South Africans suck at. As a result of this the "responsible" advice is usually "avoid buying anything on credit (because you're an idiot)". That last part is usually omitted in the interest of good relations.

Edgars 6 months interest free account I opened back in 2009 and still have it. Best account EVER. Get edgars vouchers in the post and get thank u points and its ALL interest free. Buy my ps4 games from cna online and bill it to the card no problem, in fact I bought my ps4 via cna online.

This account is better than ANY credit card or store card.

Edgars have good vouchers, as far as I am concerned.

Can't remember the exact details, but when I used them I certainly felt the saving. The 6 months is interest free, so all in all, a great deal. Right?

Try and use your thank u points on double points days. Redeem half your points which is doubled and carry the balance over to the next double points day where you redeem half again. Haven't done this yet but one of the cashiers at CNA told me to do this.
