Cloud computing is old, Cloud became a marketing term. In China, they have disk less networks since yonks ago which is a decentralised data system.
What does that mean tho?
What was the product they were selling?
I would rather call out those labelling their traditional hosting system as a cloud product, because it is accessible until it is unavailable that is.
But you are connecting these two...
A classic hallmark of cloud computing, and the whole reason Amazon was so successful with it was because of the elastic part.
You can rent storage and compute and only pay for what you use. There is no up-front contract and the whole idea is you can spin up capacity as you want without human intervention and without paying beyond the time you used it. If I need a computer for 1 hour, I can get it for 1 hour, right then and not worry about commitments or dealing with paperwork to get it.
That fundamentally is why corporates moved into that space. Before that, there were always contracts and long term commitments in place and because of that loss of freedom you aren't really saving much money over a private data center. Not to mention the pain of getting a server setup.
Call it what you want, but cloud computing, the product, as we buy it today was pretty much invented by Amazon. That is why every cloud provider out there are creating equivalent APIs.
The fundamental pieces that make up cloud computing, IE> IaaS, etc. existed in some forms, but not cohesively and on-demand
The Chinese can take a domestic grown product, globally, they do have the expertise and not everything is a copy
Sure but not cloud computing, there they are a non-player.
