Cloud storage/backup

I'm currently subscribed to Bitcasa but the product has been broken since they changed platform.

Any suggestions for online backup with selective mirroring of folders, covers more than one PC, maybe have the files accessible from mobile devices and of course value for money?

I use OneDrive. Best value ever imo. For R751 a year you get all the latest Office apps for 5 PC's and unlimited OneDrive storage for each. That's effectively R12.50 per PC per month. Insane value. The cherry on top is that OneDrive has my favourite mobile app of the major online storage options.

Cloud and backup are two very different things.

You can try to use a "cloud" solution as backup but when things go wrong...gawd help you. i.e. If you have local data corruption...your trusty cloud service syncs that corrupt sht to their server...now what? Now you have two copies of the corrupt data. Obviously I'm simplifying but you get my point...cloud is sync not backup.

If your data is important to you...treat cloud service and backup service as two distinctly separate things.

Good advice right here!

Have you looked at Crashplan or Backblaze?

who offers back up vps like backupsy hosted in sa? no ridic prices ofcourse?

What was the final answer in this debate...

I want to backup three computers on a daily basis, initial upload per machine 300gb each and then want to upload say every morning(02:00am) the changes which which should not amount to more than 300 megs.....

Currently all my backups are onto usb drives , but if the impending fire arrives, this helps naught..... all three machines have unlimited ADSL and I will sleep a little better knowing that if the three machines had to "burn/disappear/fail" that I could restore from outside...

I am not familiar with this cloud thing, so please advise......

thanking you....

I went with iDrive. It did not match Bitcasa 100%, but it will do what describe above as being your need. The 1TB package may become too small for you quickly and the jump to the 10TB option is quite a bit. This might not be the best option for you from a price perspective, but technically will do the job

Also, maybe this link will help http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2288745,00.asp

Crashplan is no 1 for cloud backup

NOTE: dont get confused between cloud backup and cloud storage ie things like dropbox ,google drive are cloud storage while crashplan , carbonite are cloud backup
