Anyone have this particular device - I saw Takealot had it on special for R999 last week (Now its R1799) but the cloudgate site still has it for R999 i want to know how it performs as a media player?
What Formats (Android so i guess you can download an app to cover everything if it doesn't by default) - not in a hurry to buy it but figure we can have a thread on it - since the cloudgate site doesn't have any info on the media player (they only have info on the Android and Windows Pc versions)
Can it read from any HDD Or does it have the old Fat32 limit
Any limitations?
Since its android i'm guessing you can load pretty much any streaming app you can think off - Netflix, Hulu - DSTV and view other services via the browser.

I'm in no rush to buy it but the device peaked my interest im sure other people are interested

Hi Isie,

The CloudGate Circle is built and optimised for media streaming. We have installed multiple media players to cover most formats during playback.

Yes it read hard drives, we have some that work well as NTFS and some that only read when formatted as FAT32. However this seems to be random and depends on the formatting PC.

Yes streaming Apps can be installed from the Play Store, it does come with the following pre-installed Netflix, CloudTV, DStv Now, YouTube.

Hi Ashe
Thanks for the reply
I am going to Assume you are from Cloud gate?
The Version of Netflix preinstalled I hope its 3.6 or lower?

True - the main disadvantage of the Cloudgate is Android OS for me.

Tech specs aren't fantastic either - it also has an inferior processor, 10/100 Ethernet, older wireless standards 802.11 a,b and n and USB 2.0. Plus, if you don't decide shortly, you'll be paying R1,999.00 for it.

The Windows version is better due to the OS, but R2,999 and still inferior hardware

I'm tempted to at least try the Android OS though

I am tempted to give one of those Celeron TV Boxes a try on Geekbuying. I current have both a Minix Neo X7 and X8-H but they are not great for Netflix (stuttery video every 6sec), which is due to the Netflix Android app and not the devices.

This one looks quite nice http://www.geekbuying.com/item/VX2-...bit-LAN-Bluetooth-4-0-VGA---White-343473.html
There used to be a 4GB RAM version of the same box with Win 8.1 64-bit but it is not for sale anymore...?

Won't that be close to R3,000 landed price?

But nice processor actually. I need SPDIF though, so still need to go with the Asus :/

Yeah me too that's why I have those Minix Boxes.

You can get a $130 version without the 500GB drive and use the leftover money to get an HDMI-HDMI+SPDIF converter. That said, there is not detail as to whether the box can output Digital Audio via it's headphone jack, much like your typical motherboard can? If it can do that, sorted.

Yes I am from CloudGate. Netflix version is 3.12.1

Explain please?

Anything newer then 3.6 is hardcoded to use the google DNS - so circumvents services like Unotelly - so it will pick you up as a south african and you wont be able ti use Netflix

thanks :) - so i got a ton of questions for you - like what android apps can you recommend to use as a remote for the Circle?
ANy suggestion on Bluetooth remotes?
compatibility with Xbox or playstation remotes ?

Just updated my cousins app as the installed one wasnt working properly
Its seems to be working fine
its the mx box tho

Would we have to sideload an older version of Netflix to get it to work or is the version supplied working?

Version 3.12.1 is later than version 3.7.1 is it not?

I have seen online that anything newer than 3.7.1 forces it to use the Google DNS lookup.

Can anyone confirm that the version on the Cloudgate works?
I have just ordered one as a second tv Netflix streaming device
