My car is going in for its cluth today :( I had the shock of my life when they told me how much it would cost... R17 000 for the clutch in a Type R  Luckily my maintenance plan covers it all!! Do not know how anyone will be able to afford that without a maintenance plan..

HOLY COW!!! I just replaced the clutch on our Tata Indica, using aftermarket parts and it was R4500 for the clutch kit. When a car is out of warranty it is just not affordable to replace with genuine parts!

If you can afford a Type R, then you should afford a clutch or gearbox. LOL.

O hell yeah, that would be damn expensive. I believe a 370Z's clutch is R30 000 :(

Am busy getting quotes on a Ford fiesta 1998 as clutch has gone -dependants car.
Parts R1100 (bought my own)
Labour R1999

Plus possible fluids and seals.

10% of cars value??

clutch on type R, the OEM one is pricey, but its like R8k labour there alone! i've got a quote from them before!
u get better, aftermarket ones- and i'm not talking LUK or SACHS etc, but rather ACT or CC they about R5k or cheaper..
most machy's will charge about R1k to fit..
As above on most- if not all JAP cars..

Yeah it is from the dealer.. I know you get cheaper aftermarket ones, but maintenance is covering this time, so will prob look at aftermarket next time she packs up.. Still pretty damn expensive for labour!!

Just to be clear, what Type R do you have?
EDIT: I'm assuming it's the '08 - '10 Civic?

You can import a 'competition' clutch kit from overseas for about R4500. Someone is ripping the ******* out of the chicken.

Yea, clutch on my 350 was 28k, but getting the parts myself came to about 12k.

Apparently on my S3 its also like 20k, haven't done it though.

My bro-in-law's brother sold his 350 because the maintenance on the car was simply outrageous.
