Hi all

Just looking for opinions on the below

Used my pc last night to do the usual gaming and surfing, nothing out of the ordinary and when I tried to boot it this morning nothing, would power up but wouldn't go to the POST.

Took it all apart with just the CPU in, no ram, no hdd, no dvd and still nothing, no POST. Put it all back together and then it worked but on the POST screen it said there had been a CMOS checksum error and that the default values had been used, booted fine with no problems.

So I just want to know if this CMOS error is something to worry about or can I go on with life and just assume it was a minor glitch?? :D

Just to add, Im running both Vista and XP on two seperate HDD's

Gives CMOS checksum error if - the Bios battery is dying or the BIOS was reset ( manually or not )

If it keeps doing that after numerous restarts then you _do_ have a problem :)

how about removing the mobo battery for 20 minutes?

thanks, I reckon it might have something to do with the fact that I have to OS's running and when it shuts down something might get corrupted, but I'll keep an eye on it for now.

I really doubt its the battery though cause the mb is only 2 years old but i'll definitly give that a try if things go south.

How long do the batteries last?

I mean my mobo was bought in 2004... and I havnt replaced it yet.

Do they recharge themselves or just only get used if the system is totally unplugged?

the batteries on these things should last at least 5 years if not more, they are only used to keep the date going and keep the CMOS settings, I have read a few things that these errors are usually a sign of things getting a bit unstable with your mobo.
