guys I got this irritating problem at work :(

we revived an "old" production machine after 5yrs! we got a cmos error seems it won't see / auto detect the Hdd and it won't save the setting in the bios, so the techie replaced the MB battery with a new battery and that's as far as his knowledge goes.

we still have the same problem. I took some pictures to help.

I go into bios cause for some reason it's not seen the Hdd

once I say "Y" to the Hdd it continues to boot up normally, but for some unknown reason it won't save the settings so when I shut down the machine and switch on again, I have to go through this process every time?

any thoughts / solutions on this problem?

thanks

Replace the cmos battery?

Edit:
Oops. Only saw now that it was replaced.

Check that the HDD is on the Primary/Master cable plug/ribbon; also check that the HDD has the jumper set to Master/Primary (not Slave or Auto Select), otherwise the BIOS may not recognise it correctly.

Was the HDD already connected in the PC, or did you add it as the Boot drive? What capacity (30MB or 30GB). Does the HDD work in another machine?

Nice old hardware btw :)

Gosh now you asking me.
This machine was working perfectly 5yrs ago when I was contracting at this company.
5yrs later when I return I'm told it's screwed thanks to those eskum power outages that we had in 2007 - 2008. So it's been off and without power since then.
The techie replace some power module that cost R67k! Everything works just fine except this problem.

The old module had to go back to Germany for repairs. I not sure what they did with it.

Will check it as you suggested

Thanks

1. Remove battery and check for spilage. Clean affected area with methylated spirit.
2. Remove power cord, reset CMOS battery by jumper. Power on, go to the bios and load setup defaults.
2. For the issue of not detecting hard drive (if not gone away) unplug hard drive data connector (both sides) and re-plug few times to clean contacts.
