Hey peeps

Anyone here does any game development using cocos2d-x or js? I'd be keen to know how you got started and what games you've made.

Busy learning to dev using cocos2d-x and it seems really cool. Also, have you had any success in building games and achieving your goals?
 
Check out unity3d.com
Very solid platform for game development, both 2d and 3d. Scripting can be done in either C# or UnityScript (also known as JavaScript for Unity). Unity is also cross platform, so one code base for both Android and iOS etc.

Cool man, good to see you published something. How long did it take you to build?

I had a look at unity and really wanted to go that route since I manly use c# and javascript at work. Also, it is the biggest platform! The problem was that it's too expensive for me right now. That's what led me to Cocos2d.

My next mission is to learn Unreal (2017) since it has a royalty percentage based model when you make revenue. Also, a solid platform since I see a lot of AAA titles built on it.

Considering I have day job, probably around 3months

The problem was that it's too expensive for me right now.

I used the free version of Unity which is more than enough. They only limitation on the free version is you can't change the splash screen. The rest of the features in the payed version are more aimed at game studios and very advanced users of the product
 
I've used cocos2d for ios...was the best for me wanting to just do 2d sprite stuff
