Sheesh... How big is this flippin update??? Been running all night and have had to topup bandwidth twice!! And to top it off, I have to do it to 2 PC's! Why cant they release a flippin stand alone update package?!?
 
Something is wrong with your steam if you are chewing bandwidth. It was just an update to the main .exe files, so should have been a few MB at most. If it's been running the whole night then I think it might have been downloading the entire game again.

Steam and IW.net..... bleh
 
I took about 2 minutes to download both the single player and multiplayer component on a 384 line, you must have had some connectivity problem.

The question why, its steam, they made the decision early on that all steam games will only be updated through the steam interface, this has its obvious disadvantages but also some advantages like being able to back up your files with the patches already installed, no need to look for 7 update files on your PC and install then one after the other.

I'm not favoring one or the other I'm merely stating the facts
 
FFS... seriously, We played on Tuesday just fine, Wed update started and just keeps going. Used over 3 gig! My settings are to keep the game up to date. Never stuff around with that. Never had any problems prior to this update? WTF? Update has been running on my Afrihost connection. So theres no problem there!

I cant play, cause its not at 100%, can I backup local at this point or is it too late? And if I have to re-install what will it do to my ranking and progress?

Stupid f..... Steam ... HATE it. How the hell does it happen to both of my PC's? I've stopped updates. Will reload the freakin game. The steam cloud stores the online player info. Not worried about single player...
 
Just remember although your stats and rank and all that is saved on IW.net there is still the possibilty that your stats can be reset. Especially when people want to enter or exit the game or steam and the msg pops up stating the the game was not fully synced with the steam cloud. Never never so continue when you get that msg. Just exit and try again. Ive seen 2 guys to whom that happened and they had both 10 days game time +.

If that ever happens to you dont start your profile over. Just exit the game and mail Steam as quick as you can and wait between 24-48hours for them to respond with instructions. Or you can just plain go google.
 
Hey man, skimmed your post's. Just to let you know, you don't have to update it on both pc's. If you you can copy paste the updated on over the one on the other pc, that should save you some bandwidth. If u reinstall it on the machines u can do that to also works if u back up the whole steam folder when you format.
 
Something went to pot on this with me.... I eventually re-installed the lot - Steam + COD MW2. Took about 35 minutes to redo it all. I even got a BSOD on Win7 X64 trying to play. First one ever. I HATE STEAM! It seems sorted now... I Hope. Played till about 11:30 last night. Got me ass whooped.... got to get me a different strategy!
 
I don't know what you guys are going on about, my game updated quickly and I didn't even notice there was an update till I saw this thread.

I'd blame Winblows for the BSOD, my updates went fine ;)

Steam sucks sometimes but is rather nice now that I have 30GB from WA.
