STEAM / COD:MW2 Warning!

Do NOT join the Steam BETA program.

If you do, Steam will start a 11GB update to COD:MW2 and well, basically, your COD:MW2 is FUBAR!

That is the boat I'm sitting in!

You can opt out of the beta, but once the update starts, the game is totally buggered!
It's like it's redownloading the entire game! ARG!
And the problem is not just COD:MW2, I've seen a thread about a guy who had to redownload all his Company of Heroes!

I'm sent a warning to rpm about this... he needs to warn people!

That's why I stay away from alphas and the first few beta releases of anything. I will however install the beta into a virtual machine and have a look, hard to resist something new and shiny.

Me too, but I don't see how installing the program (Steam) will mess up games ON Steam.

I mean come on, don't these bloody guys test their stuff?

If they do test it, do they get 1 or 2 people to test it? I mean, WTF!

Well, my plan is not working to well, downloaded the stub installer, and when it attempts to update it continually gets stuck at 27% :-/

Ah well, will try again later.

Ok, found a fix:

Revert back to the old STEAM, opt out of the BETA.

Restart PC

Uninstalling COD:MW2 completely, then browsing the STEAM folder and REMOVING all COD:MW2 files and then reinstalling the game.

It’ll do a few updates.

Game works, SP and MP... or at least, did for me.

No, what happened here is Steam stupidity, they clearly didn't test their product... it's like they designed it, and thought - well, let's let everyone else BETA test this bloody thing.

I call user stupidity here, who jumps headfirst into a brand new untested beta, without backups, without first seeing what other people's experiences are. Not everyone with MW2 had issues. They need to throw the beta out to the masses to find issues like these.

gdiza. what are betas meant to do? they meant to test the product. i agree with detritus
