Women in Africa are being sterilised without their consent after being told the procedure is a routine treatment for Aids, a lawsuit will claim.

Forty HIV-positive women in Namibia have been made infertile against their will, according to the International Community of Women Living with HIV/Aids (ICW). The group is preparing to sue the Namibian government over at least 15 cases.

Disgusting. How will that stop the spread of HIV?

sue the bastards...
IMO I quite honestly believe people should have an IQ test before being allowed to concieve, we'll solve alot of the worlds problems this way ... bad joke

if steps like these were implemented all accross the world aids would not be the problem it is today, what if it spreads so much quarentine is needed to stop the rest of the populace screwing themselves into a long drawn out death? come to think of it though they mostly are fornicaters so whatever the worlds better off without em, helping sinners just breeds more sin after all, hehehe screw the pooch and bear his aid babies, in most of africa just more meat for the machine...

But all ranting aside, these doctors probably just got fed up with all the selfishness and pure idiocy of the local populace and tried in their own way too help things along to a more logical direction, at least these woman wont be giving birth to children that will lose their parents shortly thereafter, and remember this is africa so the children would have been born with aids most probably anyway, prevention is better than cure people, stop being so dammed soft

If you have HIV you should not conceive.
If you can't support a kid why conceive?
Once Africans start taking responsibility for their own children things might improve here.

Babies dont spread HIV. Adults do. And in most cases, they are consenting adults.

True. And you are right from a moral standpoint. I have to read up more what the thinking is behind this. Doesn't make any sense at all.

The problem is these kids cost the government money.

If you realise you have HIV should you have more kids?:D

It is risky, but AFAIK anti-retroviral medicine actually can help prevent mother to child transmission. Technically it is possible. Unless you meant that the orphans cost money? No reason they should be orphaned if the parents get ARVs. The ARVs on the other hand cost tons of money.
