Yea I've registered and have paid this way for at least a decade .Have you registered in the e-joburg.org.za portal then you can pay by credit card if you are short of cash
Just COJ acting in bad faith as usual. Raise this with your ward councillor - it's far too aggressive.Yea I've registered and have paid this way for at least a decade .
I do my payments at the same time (26/27/28) when I get paid - and originally my CoJ due date was actually 28th
The due date started dropping over the years and now it's around 22/23/24 of each month
I've carried on with my payment date though - so between 2-6 days late
But 3.5 days to hand over is a bit insane.
I've asked to bump up to a due date of 28th again
I used to do the same as you (I used to pay COJ on 25th approx) and I started getting calls from COJ call centre. I just pay on 20th now using easypay and settle CC on 25th. I have lot of hassles to sort out and this is the least of my worries.Yea I've registered and have paid this way for at least a decade .

The new mayor has obviously issued a Fatwa against rate-payers who are more than 24-hours overdue.Check this joke :

LOL - Not focusing on news so had no idea we have a mayor from Al-jamah party - didn't know we had this party either. Of course, he broke a ceiling of sorts to become first muslim mayor of COJ and I hope he sorts out something in 6 months as Dada morero takes over later.Sarcasm.
I hope.
He was so eager to get in front of the cameras back when he got elected that he didn't even bother to get a proper shave and haircut.

Hi All. I also received the same and threatening emails that I have been handed over even when I have paid my bills on time. Please advise if you coming right. This is indeed aggressive and bullying behaviour that is not acceptable. Can we escalate to consumer groups please like Consumerwatch etc.Same here

City Power would like to warn customers to be vigilant against criminals who are posing as our debt collectors.
City Power has noticed a disturbing trend from scammers who are attempting to take advantage of our revenue collection efforts across the City - by defrauding unsuspecting customers.
Several customers have reportedly received threatening E-mails from a fraudulent debt collection company called Hlaketa Revenue Enhancement Systems.
Customers are urged not make any payment to this or any other company without first verifying with City Power.
We are pleased that customers who received messages of threats of disconnection did not panic, but rather reported the alleged fraudsters to us before paying. The matter has been reported to the police.
City Power will only effect disconnections with the purpose of recovering growing debt after following due process, which includes repeated calls and messages urging customers to pay.
When our officials come to disconnect, customers can identify them through their trademark uniforms and ID cards, which they’re required to wear when they’re on duty. Customers can verify the credentials of City Power employees by contacting the number which appears on the identification card.
Customers can also call our Toll-free number 0800 116 166 or send a WhatsApp message to 083 579 4497.
Non-paying and defaulting customers are urged to settle their accounts directly with City Power.
