They came just now. Meter removed and Cable has been cut.
Yeah, I dont know why they did that. But what I am happy about is that its done. Was still going to cost 12k to get reconnected anyway so they can do whatever they like I guess.Well done. Not sure why they needed to cut the cable but I guess thats a last FU for if you need to reconnect.
It has a box, the CP guy had removed it for him to take a picture for his records.Just my curiosity. Is that how the box looks, no cover or anything ?
So all it takes is 20 visits to COJ and CP?I will post the final update when i see the electricity portion removed off the bill. But otherwise, there you have it. It is possible to go off-grid in JHB. No need for some people on here to spread all the stories about how its not possible yada yada.
And the fact that 1 CP technician is disconnecting 3 to 4 houses a week for off-grid applications means its more widespread than people thought.

They will send me a copy of the job card tomorrow morning.
The process will be automatic for the account closure. But just in case COJ takes its time to close the account I can show them the job card as proof the meter has been removed.
The guy said he is doing 3 to 4 meter removals a week! And it’s the same story, Postpaid people with solar not happy with paying 1.4k. He said CP will be forced to adjust their billing when revenue begins to drop significantly.
You could say that. Think I did about 10 to 12.So all it takes is 20 visits to COJ and CP?
My water bill is mostly always zero or some stupidly small number. Tier based and I rarely ever go into the next tier since my consumption isnt that high.Next problem is water. Overspec solar so one can get/make a water from air generator for sunny days.
What happens when nothing comes out the taps?My water bill is mostly always zero or some stupidly small number. Tier based and I rarely ever go into the next tier since my consumption isnt that high.
Only 6 days leave to go off grid. Sounds like trying to renew drivers card in dbn. It took 10 mins in cape town. I gave up after 2 weeks going everyday and seeing a queue of a hundred people to get through so would turn around and try again the next day, rinse and repeat. There was 1 person in the queue in Cape Town. You could say that. Think I did about 10 to 12.
Other people's experiences will be different as my issues where wrong form (you guys now know what form to use), and system being down. Doing it over December holidays didnt help. I reckon 6 visits should be the average for most.
Water tank. So far its been good. Outages last maybe 3 hours and thats once a month tops. Midrand did have issues for days though but my tank can last 8 to 10 days comfortably. What happens when nothing comes out the taps?
Here In JHB there is a couple of well run places to renew it. Midrand around Waterfall estate is excellent for renewing licenses, you go in and out in a few minutes.Only 6 days leave to go off grid. What about the possible sewerage leaking into the system?Water tank. So far its been good. Outages last maybe 3 hours and thats once a month tops. Midrand did have issues for days though but my tank can last 8 to 10 days comfortably.
There was no line in Cape Town. Just one person in front of me doing eye test which took 5 mins. Payment and temp license took another 5 mins. Here In JHB there is a couple of well run places to renew it. Otherwise, you have to pay those guys who stand in the queues money to jump the line.
