Cold front to hit SA: Forecaster

It's 33 C in Durban now.

The warm wind is sickening.

Pretoria still needs to see winter as well. I always refer to people complaining about our winters as pussies. Small little fluffy kittens.

Yeah, we'll see who is the little pussy when JHB/PTA's cold weather arrives. It might only last a couple of days but it gets ****ING cold,

Ever take a **** while still having a blanket wrapped around you? I did this morning.

'REAL' WINTER HITS SA

The first cold snap of true winter has arrived and the public should prepare for frosty conditions in the coming days, the SA Weather Service (SAWS) said on Thursday.

Forecaster Lulama Pheme said on Thursday and Friday most of the country would get its first taste of "the real winter".

"At the moment [the cold front] is over the central parts of the country.

"It has already passed the Western Cape, the Northern Cape, and the western parts of the Eastern Cape."

These areas experienced some showers on Thursday morning and snowfall was expected on high ground.

The south-western parts of the Northern Cape had a dusting of snow on Thursday morning.

The SAWS issued warnings for disruptive snowfalls over the western high ground of the Western Cape, the southern high ground of the Northern Cape, and the southern Drakensberg on Thursday.

High seas were also predicted between Hondeklip Bay and Port Alfred, but this was likely to subside in the evening.

By Thursday evening, Gauteng, the North West, the Free State, and KwaZulu-Natal were expected to feel the chill.

Pheme said in the eastern parts of the country a warm north-westerly wind generally heralded the approach of a cold front, sometimes accompanied by clouds.

Snow Report SA tweeted that snow had fallen in Ceres, Robertson, Matroosberg, and Theronsberg in the Western Cape and Sutherland in the Northern Cape.

The SAWS predicted that Sutherland, one of the coldest towns in South Africa, would reach a maximum temperature of only five degrees Celsius on Thursday.

@wizardofid. Yep. You're right. For years I had a farm pretty much on the Lesotho border, halfway between Clarens and Fouriesburg. Boy, can it get freezing in winter! Where are you in the Malutis? Beautiful part of the country.

Zastron area, Just had a look outside, low clouds very dark, humidity is a bit low and temperatures a bit on the low side, might get some ice rain, but snow is unlikely, humidity is too low for that.Conditions needs to be perfect for snow sadly, currently sitting a 5 degrees here and getting colder by the minute :( Yesterdays gale force wind pretty much destroyed any chances for snow :(

Considering the snow fall is generally light here, I was hoping to at least build an affirmative action snow man.Rest of the winter still to come so holding thumbs for some snow :P

Pretoria and 24'c at the moment.
I am expecting that to plummet tonight.

Already got another heater and pulled all the winter blankets out of the cupboard.

To be honest, I thought the plummet would happen last night, here in Joburg.

I was wrong, obviously, but we had the 2 blow heaters and the one panel heater on from about 6pm anyway.

If it hits in the middle of the night I'm going to be the household member running around switching stuff on, so I'd rather waste a little electricity and have them all on before we go to bed.

I just put the electric ones onto timers in winter.

Hmm. Need to refill my 9 kilo gas cylinders before the panic buying (if I'm not too late)

Was suprisingly warm in Vereeniging when I left hom at 05:30 this morning. My car read 15deg C when I got on the highway, and never dropped below 12.
