Hi all,

I've been struggling to get this right now, but I've found a way, or at least on 2 models of HP printers, HP were so UNWILLING to help with this information (or they didn't know)

So, for the HP 2420 and 2430, the way to do a cold reset is as follows:

Turn it off and when it does the memory count, push and hold the GREEN "GO" button and then let go.

Push the up or down arrow and select 'cold reset'

Done ;)

I thought I'd share this for anyone who 'searches' for this information in the future.

If you know how to COLD RESET other makes of HP printers, please post the information here as it will be very helpful.

What is a cold reset? And how different is to turning the printer off?

Cold Reset kills everything on the printer, so if you've set it with a password, or fixed IP's or set it to only print PCL or PS, "Cold Resetting" kills EVERYTHING... almost like factory default (but that only kills settings like paper types etc)

holding the go button prints out the configuration, i've never seen the cold reset option, it doesn't do much as you can do all the resets by navigating to the appropriate menu anyway, i'll give it a go tomorrow on a 4000DN and a 3005DN

To me... HP has become like Nortons. A nice shiny package, but useless underneath.

I'd seriously disagree, ever tried installing an Epson, Lexmark printer on on IBM I525 or AS400 box, the only printer that does the job is Hp, one driver suites all no matter how new or old the printer is.

Thanks for the heads up. I never thought that I have been doing this to reset my printer. Thanks for the information, now I know that it's called Cold resetting.
