Cold shower for Cup's very first casualty
Jun 2, 2010 10:37 PM | By ZANDILE MBABELA
Heralding the start of a wild World Cup party, a drunk Australian tourist "washed up" on Kate Lorimer's doorstep after a night spent celebrating Australia's 1-0 win against Denmark.

Lorimer is the Gauteng DA spokesman on safety and security. Local domestic workers knocked at her door at 7am yesterday to alert her to the man "with bare white legs" in the driveway of her Randburg home.

"I could smell the booze on him. He had goosebumps all over, and he must have been lying there all night," Lorimer said.

Jerry Goding, wearing only an Australian soccer jersey, green shorts and a pair of slip-slops, could only tell her he was staying "somewhere in Cape Town".

After Lorimer had "shoved him into the shower", Goding managed to tell her he was staying at a backpackers' lodge in Dunkeld, about 15km away.

Lorimer's husband dropped him off after a thorough scolding.

When The Times visited him yesterday afternoon, Goding, still in the same clothes, said: "I honestly can't tell you how I got there." He said he had lost his wallet and cellphone.

Asked for his views on crime, he replied: "It happens everywhere. If you pass out in the middle of nowhere, someone is going to rob you. That's that."

Later, someone called to say they had found his cellphone.

How embarrassing. After all my drunken antics, I don't think I've ever made the front page of a foreign paper.

Well done Jerry, on a successful night out.:D

Cheers! :D The part on being robbed is true, though. But one time I got lucky. Back in 1998 I passed out in Seapoint/Greenpoint under the trees across the road from the 7-11. This is there by the Sea Point Civic Center. I woke up after 4am, and it was raining a bit, I still remember the light rain forming a halo around the streetlight :D Still had all my stuff on me, but since my car was parked in a a building in town'a few kilometers away, I don't know how I got there. :o

Lol, nice going!

I'm still waiting for the first English fan to try to swim in the North ENd lake here in PE, it's right next to the stadium.

eish...Australians :erm:

haha, legendary sounds like the type of guy who knows how to have fun,and lose his car :D

Meh... that dude is an amateur.

I was so ratarsed at my 21st that after 'dropping my gf off' at home, failing to get it up and 'leaving' in shame I must have got a second wind and tried to make my way back to her room, only thing is I got lost and was found passed out with my pants round my ankles on the floor of her parents bedroom the following morning.

Breakfast was... awkward.

As Jules said in Pulp Fiction, you briefly experienced what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity. ;)
