Cold showers?

There's one place I don't really go. I find that shaving with hot water is a much smoother experience. Cold water often makes the razor tug my beard out more than it shaves away at it.

That's why I shower before hand, so beard and face is soft. Apply shaving cream and then use cold water to shave. Not sure why that would not be smooth, feels quite smooth when I do it. Which probably makes it BS since I had warm shower before shaving :D

Don't know about increasing your health, but cold water is defnitly great for your skin. Just look at Jennifer Aniston, she claims her good looks is from dipping in ice water every morning.
Also have a friend who only baths in cold water. And her skin is lovely.

I usually shower warm and then turn off the hot water for the rinse at the end.
I do almost the same. Shower and rinse with warm water and then turn off the hot water for a minute or so at the end. Very invigorating but don't attempt to do it during winter.

Definitely not in winter. Lowered body temperature causes a drop in the immune system which makes a person more susceptible to colds and flu.

I usually take a scorchingly hot shower and then rinse with cool water for 3-5 minutes to cool down. Leaves you feeling very refreshed.

Well, one of the often mentioned benefits of cold showers actually seems to be that it strengthens your immune system so you don't catch colds as easily. :p

Edit: But yes, there is no way in hell I'm getting into a cold shower in the middle of winter.

Well all its going to do is decrease the blood flow to your skin. The muscles will tighten and blood will be redirected to your core to normalise the temperature comming in from the surface. Other than dropping the immune cells available close to the skins ... I dont see any point to it.

homeostasis ... you will be back to normal in no time

That may be a myth. More antibodies go to work as temperature rises. That explains why fever is present with infection.

So, a week into only taking cold showers, and I've decided I'm sticking to it. For now.

My skin feels a lot better, and my hair is smoother than usual. It's also a really refreshing way to start the day. It wakes me up like nothing else and I'm more energetic afterwards. It's also nice knowing that once I step out of the shower, the coldest part of the day is over. My electricity is also lasting a lot longer now, so I'm saving money while I'm at it. XD

Only cons is that I rather miss hot showers, and that I don't think I'll ever really get used to getting into icy cold water in the morning. I'm going to have to get used to freezing my ass off in the shower.

That's probably because cold water doesn't do a great job of washing out grease :D

my dad used to do it and claim it prevented cold. I have never tried it .

What I've tried since reading this:

I take a hot shower then the last 5 mins I turn it cold (but not ice cold - a little bit of hot in there). Seems to work for me xD
