Anybody here had one and what's it like?

I'm booked for one tomorrow and to be honest I'm a bit rattled.:(

Process itself is innocuous enough!! The procedure is nothing to fear. What they might find lurking is more to concern yourself about IE the results of the Colonoscopy.

The most unpleasant part of the process is the pre 24 hour diet of red jelly and water.

I'm spooked about the results as well believe me.
I'm on a diet of Picoprep (Was told to stay in a very close proximity of a toilet),and water now.
As it is in general I don't like hospitals.

The procedure itself is nothing to worry about. I had one about six weeks ago. Picoprep cleans you out nicely.

Of course there's a reason why you're having one (I had acute diverticulitis, it turned out), and the doc will explain the diagnosis and prognosis.

Good luck with the diagnosis. Hope all is well.

The only issue for me was mild pain when the colon was inflated, and of course once the procedure is over, you get to go to the bathroom to relieve the pressure built up by the inflation.
What goes in must come out after all.

Well - I've never had one. But Mister 44 calls them "taking pictures for Satan's photo album', and experience has shown me his descriptions are spot-on.
But don't worry - its a standard procedure. Good luck on the diagnosis.

I have never experienced something like Picoprep. bloody hell.:wtf::cry:.
Thanks for all the well wishes ladies and gents.

Will try and post an update later this weekend.
/off to drink the second satchel:cry:

No pics please.....

Had mine from both sides 2 years ago. Painless even after knipping off various things.
Just take some husk every few days and you'll never have to worry again.

Had one before. It's really nothing to fear. the worst is the 2 days of ****ting liquid that's the worst. You'll be under and will wake up as if you had a nice nap. No discomfort or anything. Your arse will be raw from ****ting water for 2 days though :D

Michael Scott has some answers for you :

Nothing to worry about. You'll just have the runs for a day or 2 before.

had one... the worst part is not eating *real* food the day before the exam

Update:

Went on Friday and truth be told the worst part is the stupid gown you have to wear.
As for the procedure, nothing to it.
Put the needle in my arm, was told to turn on my left side when the anesthetist told me that my head might start feeling fu...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Woke up to hear the wife and doc talking.
No nasty after effects.
No discomfort.
Was given some chow and told I can go home.
Should have the results today or tomorrow.

Just for interesting sake: the guy in the bed next to me came all the way from springbok for his colonoscopy.

good to read that you are up and about :)
hope the results are not bad.

some questions some people have:
which hospital?
which doctor?
and later please update with all the costs.

Louis Leypoldt mediclinic
Prof van Rensburg had the honor of digging in my back side and medical aid paid for it.
Will ask my wife as soon as we get all the paperwork in.

A little tip the pharmacist won't tell you about.....
Drink a glass of warm water every morning and never be constipated again !:)
