.com Domain transfer

Hi All,

I have a client who has a .com domain, and i have tried registering it with godaddy.com, i have an account with them, and already have another .com domain with them.

The problem is that her previous hosting company is in the UK, and do not respond to email etc.
NOW, her domain has finally expired but tucows hosting has now snatched the domain, and i can't seem to register it with godaddy, because it belongs to tucows.

Anyone had this issue before? and what is the easiest way to get a .com domain transferred?

You are so screwed - they will ask you R10 000 at least to get it back.

Your best bet would be to ask Tucows what domain name transfer fees would be involved - I doubt they will hold you hostage. Best of luck.

Yes, you have problems.

Tucows is known to snatch up expired domains, with value, and reselling it. The only way you will get it back is by buying it form them at the price they have set.

Out of own experience, Tucows will not negotiate with you if you are not interested in paying their price.

The first problem here is the expiration of the domain name. There was a few months you / the hosting company would have had the opportunity to renew the domain, Godaddy would have sent numerous notifications.

I always recommend to people to stay away from hosting companies who do not register the domain in your own name. Even better, go to services such as Godaddy or Namecheap.com and register your own domains. Atleast you will have full control over them.

The best you can do is to contact Tucows and ask what they are asking for the domain, but I bet it won't be cheap!

We are waiting for more reports, but I suspect it may be a reseller of Lusion whose server was compromised, however, WHOIS still points back to lusion.

You should keep the files for further investigation, however dont you think it would be wise to move it to another folder that is only accessible by your admins, not the whole wide world?
