Cesc Fabregas has dismissed reports that he has turned down a new contract as "mischief-making".

It was suggested in Sunday's newspapers that the Spanish midfielder had refused a deal, perhaps paving the way for a move away from Emirates Stadium. However the 21-year-old has flatly denied the story.

"A newspaper report suggesting that I have rejected a new contract is untrue," he said.

"The article is just mischief-making. Everybody knows I have a long-term contract and that I am happy here. I'm focussed on doing my best for Arsenal."

It is INEVITABLE!!!!

He will come and it will be HIS decision!

Will you hate him for life if he goes this Summer? I have heard lots of players say they are not going to go, only to transfer to a new club the next window.

You don't know. You Cesc's manager? It all depends on how Arsenal do this season. If they don't win a trophy, Cesc might look elsewhere for Silverware. We've been down this road before many times before though.

Lets just wait until the end of the season when the transfer window opens and see what happens. Us Arsenal fans are pretty sick and tired of hearing Barce blabbering to the media about Cesc going to Barce. Its been going on for the last 3-4 years now. Its like a mosquito that just wont go away.

Unfortunately that is the case when we talk about Cesc Fabregas. It has always been like that due to him coming from the Cantera.

It never really used to irritate Arsenal supporters, but i feel they are getting more and more irritated this season cos they know there is a MASSIVE possiblity he will leave soon.

As I said in my previous post.

Did I touch a nerve? More chance of him signing a new contract for Arsenal than signing for Barca atm imo.
And no, I was more concerned about him leaving last year. I don't see how it's inevitable though. Cesc has previously said it would be a tough choice between Barca and Real. Doesn't sound like a die-hard Cule, does it?

Nope we're getting more and more irritated because the tapping up is ****ing criminal and if Fifa had balls Barca would've been fined ages ago.

So now we live in a world where no player must ever tell the media that they would like another player to join them at the club. Where is the proof that Barca tapped up Cesc?

Cesc won't (and in fact cannot) go anywhere without Arsenal wanting to sell. I remember Sky and whoever else 'confirming' and 'understanding' that Patrick Vieira was '99% a Real Madrid Player'. Please.

5 or so years ago, Wenger would have discussed the possibility of a trophy drought with Cesc and his management. The same was probably discussed again when Cesc signed on for 8 years not too long ago. The point was probably made clear and dry to Cesc before he came to Arsenal in the 1st place from Barca - "We are starting fresh and building a new team around you".

It had to have been that way. To let Vieira go, Edu, Gilberto and to some degree Pires, who was thought to be moving into central midfield at one point. And now to appoint him captain, damn straight Cesc will now have more Arsenal 'DNA' (to quote that knob Xavi), than Barca DNA. He didnt kick a ball officially as a Barca player. He knows he will be an Arsenal legend - and if you gauge his tone from interviews etc, the boy feels just as responsible for Arsenal's failures as anyone. That will drive him.

Cesc played for Barca B.

There is an article on the net that analysed his post match CL interview where he belittled his team mates and said Arsenal made school boy errors. Cesc never ever used to blame his team mates, but he is now. Even ESPN Soccernet Presspass has said that it is out of character for Cesc to do that, and they tried to understand why he said it. (But who cares what they think anyway)

Pires: “If Barcelona want Cesc, they’ll get him”​

Villareal winger and Former Arsenal star Robert Pires (33) reckons Barcelona face an uphill challenge to land Cesc Fabregas but concedes it is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Fabregas has been linked with a summer return to the club he left as a sixteen-year old to join Arsenal.

But Pires, who enjoyed a successful career with the Gunners, insists Arsene Wenger won’t let his talismanic skipper leave without a fight.

“Wenger will not be convinced by money. He always wants his best players”, the French midfielder is quoted as saying by catalan sports paper Sport.


“At Arsenal, he is the captain and Wenger has confidence in him, and that is important because he knows he will play. At Barca it is more difficult. You must choose and it is complicated.”

But Pires added: “Barcelona have a smart president and if they want a transfer they’ll get it.”

However Barca president Joan Laporta claims he is not keen on bidding for Fabregas.

Despite the stories from Catalan press and previously saying the player had Barca DNA, Laporta told The Times,

“He is not a temptation. Arsenal came fishing for our young players. One of them was Cesc. Now he is playing very well at Arsenal. I can’t say any more about this.”

Barcelona have denied that they are planning to make a move for Arsenal midfielder and Spanish international Cesc Fabregas (22).

In an interview with The Times, club president Joan Laporta, told that he is not tempted to bring the Spain midfield player back to the club where he was a youth team player.

Laporta also played down suggestions that he has offered Thierry Henry, the former Arsenal forward, as bait to Bayern Munich as part of a deal to take Franck Ribery to the Nou Camp.

Asked if Fabregas could be a summer signing, Laporta replied: “He is not a temptation.”


Fabregas was lured from Barca by Arsenal, who went on what Laporta referred to as a “fishing trip” to the Catalan club.

“Arsenal came fishing for our young players,” he said. “One of them was Cesc. Now he is playing very well at Arsenal. I can’t say any more about this.”

Poaching of young players by big clubs is, according to Laporta, simply a matter of market forces at work.

“It’s the market which fixes theses situations and it is a question of the ability the clubs have to engage the player,” he said.

“We are developing a policy for our youth players so they make the first team. It is showing results because half our first team are from the youth team, like [Victor] Valdes and [Carles] Puyol. We explain that money is not everything. We want them to love Barca.”
