Comedy Central coming to DSTV

this will probably NOT be the true US CC channel, and will be filled with old shows and crap.
 
This will most probably just the UK feed and as already said,it sucks.

What i actually would like to see,is a local comedy channel with the best from all over the world,SA content too.Even the US CC channel has a very high repeat rate.

It's true! The domain comedycentral.co.za is registered and password protected.
 
Most stuff on comedy central apart from the Daily Show,south Park and Colbert report are really just shows on syndication (ie scrubs,sunny,madtv)

What sucks is SA might loose access to the daily show videos on the web if we get this channel.

tbh I'm happy with that, would like to see some old tv shows, obviously I would like some new things from them.
 
Unfortunately TV with Tinus recently speculated that there will be only one more new channel this year and, today, he is hinting that Trace Sports HD is coming soon.

This is nothing more than E! Entertainment focussing on sports stars (no actual sport) and will also, more likely than not, not be in HD as the name suggests. I, for one, would be pretty upset if such a channel takes up valuable HD bandwidth!
 
If they start something like Trace Sports HD... They can expect me to complain, EVERY day that it is aired....

There are 100000 better items to use HD bandwidth on... like, oh BBC HD... or a NatGeo HD type channel.

Thinus is the TV journalist who has correctly forecast (long before DSTV admitted) each of the new tv channels additions in SA over the last 2 years on his blog so I would hardly call it BS speculation... he has many insider contacts...

Studio Universal, Sony Entertainment, Sony Max, Food Network, SSHD2 & 3, MM1HD, TLC, Disney XD and Disney Junior are just SOME of his non-speculative spot-on forecasts...

A friend who works in PR confirmed that they are working on the Comedy Central launch although apparently Multichoice has yet to sign the contract!

They don't have carte blanche (excuse the pun) to just move shows over to an international channel. Comedy Central is a brand with licencing issues.

They will pay CC a large sum just to use the logo, and buy syndicated shows....and then hope nobody in SA will be the wiser.

I'm sure they've done it with other channels...

Its actually standard practice all over the world.

Boy,would all of you be dissapointed.Even in the US there is not even enough new content to make 6 hours a day.Something tells me,not many mybb "CC fanbois'
have actually seen a weeks worth of US CC.

Dstv is gonna set this up very cheap.Get ready for reruns of shows like king of queens and two and a half men.Get ready for the ridiculously watered down Daily show:Global edition.
Dstv will buy old cheap content like Mind of Mencia,Chapelle's show and the failed Jeff Dunham show to give it the CC feel.This will also gives them the opportunity to dust off old
standups like Raw.

Oh boy,i can't wait for the flood of complains.
 
Do you know how satellite TV works? Not every channel on DSTV (or any satellite service for that matter) is operated by that particular satellite service.

For all you know Viacom (MTV/Comedy central/CBS/Paramount/Nickalodeon owners) are wanted to launch the brand in Africa and are putting something together. in this (and most cases with international channels) Multichoice/DSTV is just the company bringing the signal to your house. Take for example BET on DSTV which is now an identical copy of what started as BET UK. Take also Kiss TV & Kerrange & Smash Hits on TopTV, these are also UK channels. All TopTV are doing is (with the agreement of Box Television) broadcasing it to SA. So, just because it's gonna be on DSTV, doesn't mean Multichoice can just move things from their own/other DSTV channels or that they will set it up cheaply. It cannot just be assumed that Multichoice will be running the channel but with licensing from Viacom to use the Comedy Central brand.
