Coming off sleeping pills

I always had some sleeping pills on me, use mostly when I sleep at a strange place. Then at home I start to use it, and now use half a pill every day. Is there a way to come off it. Like last night I did not use it and at 3 o'clock use one as I could not find the dream land train. The pills I use is stillnox

If you do exercise ? Running etc to tire you out ?

so i struggle to sleep properly and gym hard several days a week, for me it isn't my body being tired, trust me my body is tired, but my mind is fscking wired!

Can you not ask your doctor to swop you over to melatonin instead?

while more "natural" it isn't an answer, anything you have to put into your body to sleep on a constant basis is substance abuse, you need to figure out how to get to sleep naturally.

/reads

Hmmmmm

That's ok! I'll keep sleeping 4-6hrs a night, 5 most nights. I'm use to that already. But seems like the alternative is sleep nothing unless you take your drugs then I'll rather just sleep less than most people, be drug free and happy.

My sympathies to the OP and others that suffer with these drugs.

Half a bottle of whisky and a couple of adco-dol before bed. It does create a whole new set of problems down the road, but it will switch your mind off.

haha yeah a few beers works well, but you don't wake up rested :p

It is how I stopped stillnox. Melatonin helped me reset my circadian rhythm
As odd as it may sound, I also added blue light filters to all my electronics and read before bed instead of tv, the difference in my life has been substantial

Tried the blue light filters and also melatonin prescribed by the dr. It worked, but still had many nights tossing and turning until my wife basically said get somnil or else. I was very grumpy from no sleep. So it was a bit of a process.

If you can take one piece of advice from this thread. GET RID OF THE STILNOX. Go from there

as a means to stopping the sleeping tablets i can agree with it being ok, i am just saying long term.

The blue light thing is interesting, i have heard bits about this before. so on your phone for example you install an app that does this? how do you deal with TV's?

Yes to the app, and some newer tv's have it also as an option

Damn. That is rough. I'm tired at 9pm, can barely keep my eye open.

The tv is a good way to fall asleep for me.

so the TV helps me also, because then i don't think so much, but then the TV also keeps you awake sometimes because you keep watching until you fall asleep, and sometimes you just can't. some suggest not even having a TV in the bedroom, but i could never I am just too used to it. I find rewatching old series sometimes helps because you already know whats happening so you don't keep yourself watching to follow it.

Yip.. the trick is find a series/movie that doesn't interest me at all.

Long term yes, its not sustainable, but it does help get into a routine. I also wake up much earlier now and by 10pm I am pretty tired.
For TV, i dont watch towards the end of the night, I get into bed and read for 45 minutes or so, it has really helped me
