Hi everyone. Seeing that i'm 30, and I owe my IT career to programming games in basic on the commodore 64 back in 89. I doubt that some of you youngsters even know what a commodore 64 is ;) I'm now hunting around to find an old commodore. So if somebody still has an old commodore 64 lying around, or know of anybody, please let me know.

I wanna setup a 'old-school' area in my games room.

Cheers,
DaBump

I got Ghost Busters for christmas once, except my mom bought in like October already, so I used to come back school, carefully take it out the cupboard, play for a bit then carefully put it back before she got home.
By the time christmas came I'd already finished it :(

Ah, the good old days

Remember typing in pages and pages of listing from magazines as well (48k ZX Spectrum).

The later listings featured a checksum code, which allows you to verify that you entered the line correctly, and re-enter it if the line doesn't match. Helpful, especially with machine code :D

ahhh... nostalgia :D

Ha!

Try fortran 77 on a mainframe system with punch cards - no ribbon working...You had to wait for your job to run and get results a few minutes (if lucky) later or a few hours........only to find that you made a typing error ......

Hah - noobs!

Try sending a cleft stick 3/4 of the way around the world by Impi runner. Only to discover, 3-4 years later (if lucky!) that you made a carving error!

i know you said it in jest, but it is sooooo true.
I found out from one of my friends here that "back in the day" they would broadcast shareware programs at late night on tv and radio. the idea was you put a mic next to the tv speaker, waited will 3am or whatever then recorded it to tape...and voila, a whole ton of shareware....this was a legit service provided by the BBC to save those hours of typing etc.

I still got a Commodore Vic 20, ZX Spectrum, and a Spectravideo. Why the hell I still keep 'em... I don't know. They did help me get divorced tho'. She hated anything to do with computers. Useful things...huh?:p

My Commodore 64 and Amiga I no longer have (though I have a really good C-64 emulator + all the games). I do still have my old Spectrum and even my ZX-81 (with a 64K memory card that is half the size of the machine).

I used to make the tape copying devices for the Spectrum and C64 all those years ago.....

My brother and I had a commodore 64 and used to LOVE it. Then my mother sent us for to boarding school. One ady we came back and we thought it would be fun to break out the C64 to see if we could still clock bubble bobble with one credit (thats the only way to do it). We looked and looked abut couldnt find it. When we asked my mother, she informed us of how she had given it away to our cousins... we were LIVID!!!! I still havent forgiven my mother and occassionally use it to get what I want from her.
