Communicating the sense in VoIP

Another problem I think with VoIP is that nobody explains the physical side of it properly and how it works. You'll have to go google for it most likely.
What do people you order it from need to change (exchange and such)? Do you use it the same as a POTS system? Do the people on the other side need something else too.
People like to know these things, so they dont have to be afriad of the unknown.

In my opinion, Interbranch VoIP is already quite widespread, we adopted VoFrame a few years ago and it worked very well with cost savings that allowed us to pay off the captial cost of the VoF equipment in six months.
Looking at the list of PTN licencees with ICASA it is obvious that a number of comapnies have seen this as an advantage.
We're doing a conversion to VoIP in the near future to increase savings even further by using 'pure' IP links rather than diginet PtP and emulating Frame Relay.
At present if you're looking at VoIP switches (PABX's), make sure it'll support SIP exchange connections as this will allow interconnection to IP exchnage providers.
Asterix (an open source system) makes a good foray into these systems, but, from a business case, unless you have ready access to the skillset don't put your eggs in this basket. The last thing you need is a linux system with your PABX on it to go down and a guy with barely an MCSE trying to fix it.
A present you have better support on the commercial side.
Siemens: Good, very expensive, no native unified VM system! NO SIP!
Mitel: Nice system, some stability issues on some Telkom BRI lines, lots of features, good support via Duxbury, intermediate price. SIP support in next version
Telkom : Sells an LG system, stay away from it as it lacks features and is sold by Telkom. nothing a about standards support.
3Com : Very nice system, simple licencing policy, SIP support in release 6. good pricing. Same class as the Mitel equipment. Support in RSA worries me a little though.
Samsung: claim to sell IP, mostly quote on IP capable with propietry phones.
RPM perhaps we should have sections dedicated to IP PABX tech on the forums, don't know if the demand is there yet though?
