but ofcourse you cannot mix the two.

You can mix them, they will run at the speed of the lowest common denominator. My laptop has mixed speed ram and I've done the same for about 5 other peoples laptops in the last year or two. The newer higher speed memory usually sells for less than the older lower speed memory so I just buy the newer/faster ram, decision is based purely on economics.
 
so a mixture between 512 ddr2-533 and 1gig ddr2-800 would run at 1.5gb ddr2-533? if so than is it not better to just take out the 512 and just put in the 1gb?

Yes.

I tried that (I have 256MB & 1GB) and did not notice any difference in speed, this is obviously subjective but the speed gain is negligible. Also keep in mind that if your MB only supports a max memory clock of 533MHz then removing the 512MB 533MHz stick is not going to make a difference as it can only physically clock the 1GB stick at 533MHz. So in reality it's not about it being slower seeing you cannot overcome the physical barrier set by your laptop MB, the place where you score is on price.

The thing that I notice most out of anything is my slow HD in my laptop, not the memory.
 
do you also have the AAO? its my gfs so i dont know what the MB's limit is, im not sure if it is 533 or if it can go higher?

so if the AAO is capable of running 800mhz then would it be better running 1.5gb-533 or 1gb-800?

I would go with the 1.5GB-533 as you don't notice the speed difference. The thing that will make the biggest difference is the speed of your HD or SSD seeing that is where the bottleneck lies.
 
so what is the speeds of this AAO ssd? sounds really bad. i was under the impression that just add 1gb ram and it should perform much better because its crap slow in doing anything

I have no idea.

Yes adding 1GB of ram will also make a big improvement if you only have 256 or 512 MB on a computer.

Sorry but nope. If you manage to get the 512MB tell me, its soldered onto the MB.

I could only upgrade with a 1GB module, 2GB module is not compatible. I was fortunate to get a DDR2-533 chip - same make as the onboard. Performance is amazing with 1,5GB now.
 
No. Compact Flash cards do not fit in the card slots. You would need to open up the AAO and connect it in place of the current SSD (which is, itself, just a CF card with a different connector).


The statement is misleading. Its a SSD with a ZIF socket and not a CF. You can get a CF adapter and McGyver the ZIF cable to get it working. For all the effort and considering the replacement value of the AAO, its not worth it.

If you want something for the expansion slots, just get yourself an SD card.

This seems still the best route. Install the base OS on the SSD and then mount everything on the SD Card. The route I will use on my AAO if I need a quick upgrade.

i can get a 1gb 533 module at R200. is that value for money? iv once seen someone selling for R150.
 
ok so my gf confirmed that it was purchased on 24 may 2009. it was bought at IC, i have only changed the os but that doesnt void the warranty?i can take it in right
