Compact Flash/1.5" HDD for aspire a110

Hi, my a110's ssd finally decided to die. so now i need to replace it but what would cost less? i have read that speeds of using a Compact Flash card is faster than the standard ssd of the a110. but im stuck between buying a hdd or CF card, a ipod hdd would also work? please help
 
title should say 1.8" hdd. i have read that a 1.8" hdd should work, provided i get a Zif connector?
 
there are the normal CF cards then there are faster one's with write speeds of 40MBps and read of 45MBps. the normal one is much much slower but as you say, it would work right? and is the normal CF card faster than the standard a110 ssd?

Yes the faster CF cards are preferable. The A110 SSD is slow, so actually they should be the same speed as a good CF card.

So get a CF card, it's the easiest option.

im willing to buy a 4gig NORMAL CF card as the high speed one's are abit pricy...R450 for 2GB whereas a 4GB normal cf is R250 then i will use my external for data. but im just scared those normal CF cards perform crappy. but if you say itl work fine then what the hell

what is the read/write speed of the ssd in AAO? take2 has 8gig Cf card 233x= i think 45MBs read and 40MBs write for R318 incl vat exl shipping or about R360 incld shipping. worth it?

I'd say probably yes. There are many metrics to consider with SSD's, not just sequential read/write times but random read/write with small file sizes and latency.

No. Compact Flash cards do not fit in the card slots. You would need to open up the AAO and connect it in place of the current SSD (which is, itself, just a CF card with a different connector).

If you want something for the expansion slots, just get yourself an SD card.

ok so i found a ssd replacement, i guess im just going to replace that but will defenatly be on the lookout for some ram as that ssd is kinda weak. those are ddr2 533 200pin so-dimms right.

oh thanks people for posting, really helps
 
Any DDR2 200-pin So-dimm should work, that is DDR2-667 or DDR2-800 or whatever.
 
can the AAO take ddr2 800? i thought its only 533. doesnt it come stock with ddr2-533? i wish i was uncapped

Yes, in the majority of cases you can use higher speed ram in slower rated machines, the exceptions to the rule are minimal.
 
but ofcourse you cannot mix the two. i think it currently has a 512 ddr2-533 so i would have to take that out and get a 1 gig dd2-800.
