Yesterday i went to my friend and saw him got his new uninet installed. He told me it was based on radio wave technologe. A user can pay R250p/m m to m contract to have 56k connection 247. No cap. no p2p shaping. Ant. Installation cost is R1000. U pay R1500 extra for the deposit of the modem., and u will receive the money back if u stop the service. The funny part is, the uninet line can be upgraded to 1m line if u are willing to pay more. i tried the line for a while and it was getting a solid 6k bytes/s. I paid R2800 for my iBurst modem. If i drop it now and i amn't receiving nothing back. Does iBurst offer a trade-in plan for our modems? Why a much smaller company ( uninet )is offering a better plan for users investments ( modems )? Wake up! WBS! Wake up! Ur R599p/m is only cheap when compared to telkom adsl!

That would be bcos WiFi signals are illegal when they cross public boundaries, and therefore the primary reason for a more competitive price (IMO).

I think uninet has been around for ages i remember about 4-5years ago someone talking about it.

It works differently on old radio technology i think.

yeah the reason no one shapes or caps a 56k connection is you cannot abuse it, at all, even 24/7, but 1mbit... well thats a diff story

"Wireless Internet connections require direct radio line of sight there can be exceptions for building within 100 meters of the access point but as a general if you can not get a direct radio line of sight from your location to an access point you are out of luck."

"late 2002 the three partners decided to establish a wireless Internet Company in Cape Town , South Africa "

sorry thatsa stupid comparison.
1 meg ADSL line compared to 56k modem lol
you cant compare the two, if thats what you pay for a 56 k connection then its an even bigger ripoff.

OMG a bloody cyber squatter, never expected this from Uninet...
More delays...

not cybersquatting and will cause delays how? all affected parties are aware of the registration

take it with a pinch of salt and some early week humour

My argument points:

Does it make sence if your 1mb line will stop function normal after 8 hours of full speed downloading, because of the cap, and u paying R599pm?

Does it make sence a service shapes u even if u have not reached the cap? My new adsl 30G does not shape me in anyway and they stated they also not plan to do so in the future, and i am paying R480 pm + line fees.

Does iBurst trade back our modem if we stop using its service?

I am still using iBurst service now but all my p2p program is shaped. If they were as honors as other isps and stated all p2p was shaped in their web pages then i would never bought the modem at the beginning.

UNINET does have a license to provide their services tho :)

 interesting, how'd they manage that? - does it have something to do with the LOS & range issues that Telkomonopoly don't regard them as a competitive threat...?

They state very clearly which protocols are provided at 1Mbit, and that any other protocols are shaped to 64kbps.
