Compensation for development of system

People moaning about how there is no reward for going the extra mile clearly aren't trying it. These are the rewards:
- Being acknowledged as the top dog in the team
- Being seen as very knowledgeable
- Working towards the next best thing, that promotion, that consultant job, whatever
- Self esteem for excelling in your job

No money involved right now most of the time. But plenty in the future.

Anybody who wants financial reward for going the extra mile is naive. The financial reward will come from standing out from the crowd.

I took out the parts I don't agree with.

Who yearns for "approval" like this? You know if you are the top dog or not. So if you need others to acknowledge this for you... :erm:

And it is all about the money. I don't do this every day because I like it, I do it for the $$$. If I wanted self esteem, praise or feel good about changing the world I'd have become a paramedic or fireman instead.

At some point in life you stop falling this bs :D
Like I have.
I was promised a bunch of stuff when I started at the last company I worked for.
I did the work, worked weekends, got the product out and it's a killer app for its market segment.

The other day all they said to me was "Sorry ole chap, we are in a recession, blah, blah, f**king blah"
The "increase" doesn't even cover all the petrol increases since this time last year.
