Compensation for development of system

Did the same thing so many times. Never asked for money, though it lightened my daily load and made other people more productive.
Got a lot of experience (worth lots of $$$$) and a nice bonus here and there.
But at a municipality, forget about it. Take the experience and boost your CV for you next job.

As I have learnt, there's usually no reward for "going the extra mile", and pressing the issue with your employer is asking for trouble.

All I have managed to glean from this thread is that people are *******s

What, for being honest and truthful?
Look mate, I tried to ask for compensation for work I recently did... guess what, they told me to either take it or leave it i.e. go work elsewhere.

You work for a crap company :(

As for the agression, do you blame them?
I find the OP's question actually laughable... What happened when Oliver Twist asked "Please sir, can I have some more?" We all know the story there.
OP either has very limited work experience or is just trolling for a reaction.

Agreed, which is why i thought that this guy is at his very first job :)

MVC might be a breakthrough for you, but most senior developers would be worried about any development not using this pattern.

Really? And I worry about anyone who touts one technical approach only as some kind of development holy grail:

Web Forms and MVC are two approaches for building ASP.NET apps. They are both good choices. Each can be the “best choice” for a particular solution depending on the requirements of the application and the background of the team members involved. You can build great apps with either. You can build bad apps with either. You are not a good or bad developer depending on what you choose. You can be absolutely great or worthless using both.

At the risk of a thread derail...

There are very few companies I have worked for where going the extra mile was not rewarded. My current company is awesome with this.
Seems you lucked out bud. :(

You work for a crap company :(
+1
Indeed, and here's the reality check. Most SA companies are crap. The exceptions are few and far between.
Me been lucky to land the exceptions then :p

Implying the company you work for is any better. Which due to my current experience post yours, it is not.

We are talking about the company as a whole and not a particular project. Currently working on another project away from THAT one and life is good. I may have to go back to THAT project end of next month but I am so sick of it I'm not even sure the extra money is worth it - and when I say sick of it I mean the client. Really. Other projects are just so boring compared to it though :(

The company though is awesome.

You are suffering from project fatigue, you remember the run ins i had with a certain manager at the client. I do still remember your meme you sent out which landed you in hot water. Now that was a funny pic. To bad they didnt think so haha.

It was :D

Project Fatigue is a reality- it happens.
This is how it happens.

Problems with the project lead to it becoming a drawn-out process. Now, in SA, when there's a problem, the people in charge look first at who they can blame/get rid of, instead of focusing on the problem. When the problem exists, people get overworked, and leave gets cancelled. I once took leave during such a time, when I came back I had the idea where the problem was, fixed it in 4 hours and all the stress and crap was gone. Most companies don't see it that way.
