Competition breaks TV hegemony

Will Netflix have Supersport broadcasting rights in South Africa?
If not then Monochoice have nothing to fear.

DSTV doesn't own sports in South Africa.. Anyone can acquire sports broadcasting rights if they're willing to pay for it..

Our football is .... naaa let's leave it at that.
Our cricket is meh.
Our rugby is only good when the selectors and other dirtwads don't stress the boys and just let them play (this is rare).

So what else is there for these similar fixes?

Aussie rules and Rugby League (Ahmahgawd!) and European fixtures.
European/Latin America football

Cricket is still meh, regardless of where played and which format (I don't much like cricket :))

SuperSport purchase and secure local broadcasting rights for sports events.
If you want to broadcast a sports event locally and Supersport has already secured local broadcasting rights then you need to negotiate with SuperSport directly and they have been known to refuse access, engage in anticompetitive behaviour and exclusionary acts.
Even the SABC couldn't win in the past when they wanted to broadcast the PSL.

SuperSport is a subsidiary of MultiChoice ... :whistling:

Broadcasters should negotiate directly with the leagues when SuperSports contracts expire..

The latest arrival will be the United States company, Netflix. It announced last week that it will launch in the country within the next two years.

How long before Multichoice go to court to stop it happening.

Probably not for the South Africa version. Licensing rights etc...

Do you really think that anyone technically minded will use the South African version of Netflix? Anyone with an ounce of tech savvy will just carry on using the US version just like they do now.

Judging by increasing number of cord cutters on this forum not everyone is obsessed with televised sport.
If you want to watch sport then go down to the pub where it belongs.
Or get off the couch and actually go to a match? I realise this involves some movement but it can be done.

I don't know why I bother.
I thought MyAdsl was something worthwhile to look at since it started back in the days, it got a lot better (cosmetically), but only about 1-5% is of any news anymore, we can find it elsewhere.

No more centering on REAL Broadband news and issues, just updates, adverts, commercialism , repeats, like bad TV series .... sad

Most of it is just copied (and badly) from other news sites and a LOT of it is just "advertising" for companies to make money.

Badly edited, unprofessional, profanity from forum posters and lots and tons of bad grammar, amateurs and wannabees...

going down the ...

No mention of YouTube?

A whole article on things to watch and no mention of YouTube? More people watch YouTube than any TV station in the world, and more content is produced for YouTube than all TV stations put together.
