Hi Everyone
Is there any way at all that I can change my entire system to completely wireless. I work with the newspapers and need to reach deadlines. I stay in an area where cable theft is a weekly occurence. I DID try VSAT/Spacestream - that was a disaster - up to a 7 hour lag on mail. 3 years ago it worked just fine. Although I do hve ISDN installed (the lines here don't carry adsl) it's never been activated due to constant cable theft. In the past 4 months I have had about 7 days' of lines working and I have 2 biz lines. I have lost clients already. I now am on 3G card but it's still a mission with faxing (we need to do authors' corrections) and 3G also has downtimes, not to mention my lack of ordinary landlines.

Is there ANY system which will give me a reliable full internet service and which will be able to plug into a fax machine (here the prob. lies I guess) - a system which can get Telkom out of my life completely? Plse hellup!!!

First off you posted in the wrong place so expect this to be moved :D

What you want to do is throw out your fax machine and get a fax-2-email and email-2-fax account.

Then your options are 3G/HSDPA/iBurst/Sentech

You must be covered by one of those at least.

Wireless Sucks

I DID try VSAT/Spacestream - that was a disaster - up to a 7 hour lag on mail.
That would be your ISP. We used VSAT until a few weeks ago. I miss it now. Never thought I would say that. The WISP we have in our area is not great.

We used @lantic.net over VSAT. The only problem was slow connection when there were clouds, and the cost.
E-mail was delivered in minutes.

With our Wireless ISP all our mail has to be re-directed from our server in the states to a local pop3 account or we can not down load it - socket error.

Even now, we dial up to @lantic and can collect our mail in seconds via ISDN. The Wireless connection sucks. However, it costs on R18 a day, and dialling in costs us R100 a day. VSAT was working out to R50 a day including the cost of the ISP, and 3GB of data a month.

It all depends on the area where you staying. We all know that ISDN (too slow) and VSAT (pending weather and expensive) does not work. Despite what other members said, wifi might be a good choice, but as mentioned above, it depends on where you live.

WISPS are normally limited to an area, therefor views on it might be different.
Should you require more info, pending on the area where you reside, please do not hesitate to pm myself.

Wifi is a great technology. For those of you that had bad experiences, by all means express it. But do not nail a first time user/poster. If you in doubt of the technology, come and visit me and I will open your eyes!
