Hi guys,

Looking for internet connectivity to our complex (300 units), and unfortunately they have refused to allow multiple dishes to be put up.

This company http://www.ddtactical.co.za/index.php/internet has offered to generate a wifi hotspot in the complex with a 2mb line with below 100ms ping.

Anyone here have experience with them?

NB 1: Complex is in Johannesburg South, near the Glen mall

Assuming there is no Telkom infrastructure in the area?

I would look at contacting a fibre provider rather.

Sharing one 2mb line between 300 units is a waste of time. Going to be slower than dialup.

Getting a security company to do internet.Have you thought about asking your vet to service your car ?

Sorry, got dragged into a meeting. I am also concerned about the speed but he did say it will be 2mb download per unit. (Will have to wait and see), using their dish. We will (the complex) a 2mb line. . . . . yeah,

No Telkom infrastructure, complex is in a new suburb.

Wont the fiber provider still need to connect to a Telkom Exchange? Any idea who to contact

Is that even possible?

How will they maintain a 2Mbps per unit?
That will mean that at one time the complex will require 600Mbps or am I not working it out correctly?

Unless they plan on install a Mikrotik or whatever at each unit?

That will be a costly affair.

No idea,

Just asking if anyone has any knowledge with them.

2Mbit per unit not too bad. Fibre is going to cost a fair amount though and you would need enough people signed up before they even start installing. There are plenty of companies who are able to provide this, for a price.

Check this article on how the Parkhurst boys did it: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/broadband/103637-parkhurst-fibre-to-the-home-why-vumatel-won.html

Our complex has a lot of old people, doubt they will be too interested in paying that :(

Don't know if this will assist.

I was in the same situation as yourself, complex has a rule about dishes on the outside wall.
I attempted to try get telkom to install, however after waiting 2 years without an answer I cancelled.

Just this year, I made a complaint with the body corporate with reference to cost of living and that the body corporate must really consider going to telkom as a representative of all the units.

It worked and telkom saw the interest in connecting 525 units to telkom.
They are busy in the process of laying the cables as we speak.

Tried this, I told them the amount of units present and they .. and I quote " Its not our job to provide you with internet, we do not have to do anything" I am serious.

Same stuff I got when I did the order by myself.
That's why you need the body corp to do it, unless you are?

I was forced to use Iburst for the time that I can't get ADSL. Could not complain about the service, could only complain that I wasn't getting above 1 meg speeds, but otherwise it was stable, except when the storms came through.

Good day

I have access to all the Fibre maps in SA.
If you can tell me the address of your complex and pm me your contact details, I'll provide you with feedback on the fibre infrastructure available in your area.

All the more reason to speak to the ones that popped out of the fine old people :p. It won't hurt to try to gather interest. If you approach a single company and say you haven't tried anyone else, what is to stop them from giving you the best deal? I do realise not everyone is out there to take all of your money but that is the mindset one has to have when approaching (atleast what i believe) with such a big project.

I have sent these guys (Ddtactical) an email for their FUP/AUP along with any technical information or if they can get someone to post here so we can better advise aswell. :)
