You really need to be looking at a fibre based solution and it is not that expensive if you get reasonable uptake. Once the fibre rings are in place, you need to 'Backbone' it for your broadband connectivity, CarmenB who posted earlier in this thread can give you which providers are available in your area. Please read an article i wrote recently for Engineering IT , it may help you understand Fibre to the home a little better. I will gladly discuss this with you in more detail if you PM me.

I must say, so far so good. The agreements have been signed and they are just waiting for the final numbers that want internet in the complex. Cost per user depends on total amount so it varies 20%(plus minus) telkom landline ADSL price. Each user gets a 2mb "line". Will post speeds once I get connected. But so far it looks very good.

The only thing is I got used to Afrihost mobile speeds at 20mbs so might need some readjusting.

I wish I could get at least an MSAN installed in my complex. Attentuation is high and I am limited to 3Mbps. Not that I want a faster line but I would love having some infrastructure closer so my speeds are at least stable.

So, an update. They did installation today and its very impressive so far. Good speeds (2mb) and a decent ping. Cost is comparable to Telkom.

Will send some shots 2 night. Left the PS to update a ton of games.

Normal cost was about R600 a unit. But because we a complex they brought it down significantly

OK. So they still have to set my shape. But running at 25ms ping.

nice but even at R500 it is still just a tad more than telkom. who are they using as there backbone provider?

Speedtest says MTN Business. It will always be more than Telkom but its a great price if my only previous option was 3g. Unless your home has lines, you would be hard pressed to get Telkom to install anything.

Are you saying ignore their service because it is awful?

Sorry, jumped the gun and was a bit angry. Had 3 days of awesome speed but there were some problems yesterday.

And everything should be back up .

I still would recommend them for people in the South of Joburg that do not have Telkom lines.
