Ok so heres what I got and what I want

Got
AMD 3500+ socket 939
K8N2 Neo platinum AGP
Radeon 9700pro
3x512 mb DDR 400 ram (1 spare/not in use)
4x512 mb DDR2 400 ECC ram (spare)

Now heres the options
a) Sell all but the DDR2 ram and buy an Asus M2N-E motherboard(app supports ECC ram), AMD 3500+ AM2 & 6800gt PCIx(till DX10 cards)

b) Leave as is and when DX10 cards are out and prices are settled, but new
everything? but chances arent very high I'll be able to sell my stuff then...

What do the wise people of myadsl suggest I should do? :)

here is my 2 cents:

selling your ram and mobo now will not make that much of diffrence. look at the guys on die forum trying to sell there stuff....its second hand and the mobo is agp...so you will not get much for that even now...so what idd do is keep that system till n few months after the dx10 cards come out. let the price drop and the dx10 mid-range card come out aswell before you buy a top range card...give them time to improve the card. so ok first buy the system you want when the time is right...then if you still feel like selling then do so but sell to somebody like a student or something...not to a somebody that know alot about pc's. but dont rip them off just get a fare price...just know that you wont get alot for it though...second hand stuff just dont sell that good....the pc world is a money losing world....so thats just what it is... :( so be strong and think of all the good time you had with that system... and go out and buy a new one...:D

I rarely sell my old pc's...just convert it into something else one of my old pc's i rebuilt in a fancy case and
I'm using it as a Media centre pc in my living room, the other old pc I converted into a linux box with samba running and i'm using it as my file server...

The next project when I upgrade again would be to build a linux firewall...

Okay, so heres the deal, you sell that chip and 1 gig of DDR400 ram to me.

I've got a friend who'll buy the other 512mb.

Um.. then do whatever with the board, and buy your self a new PCI-E/AM2 system so that you are future proofed. Then you can use your DDRII. But what to do for a graphics card is a problem. How about buying a 6800GS PCI-E for R1000? I know someone selling one.

Your offer does sound tempting but in order for me to sell those I would need to sell the board off too & then have enough money from all that to replace the board and cpu, obviously won't be enough to buy a gcard but I think trading a mboard, cpu & 1.5gig ram should at least cover my expenses of a replacement board and cpu since I'm probably looking at same CPU but AM2 and then a low range mboard

Hmm.. you see im "in the market" for all of that, except the board. I am actually looking for a 939 board, but I cant use AGP.

Well if you think you can sell the board separately or want to sell your chip and 1.5GB of ram ,then im interested.

well how much you looking to spend is the bigger question, cause from what ive seen this is basically how much I need

AM2 AMD Athlon64 3500+ R860
Asus M2N-E R1030
Asus 6800 gt extreme R1000 (maybe)

so basically trying to get as close to R2000 for everything I suppose
