That's referred to as RAID. There are a few forms of this, generally based on either RAID 0 (2 drives form 1 big drive) or RAID 1 (1st drive is mirrored on the 2nd). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID

For working with very large files, it may give some benefit
 
What would be considdered a big file?

Some of the 3D drawings go up to 50MB. I just cant go any bigger cause my PC is too slow at the moment. But if I can sort the PC problem out, then I hopefully will be able to add cars and people to my scenes (cars can be like 15MB in size alone).

Wuold I then benifit with the 'RAID 0' option?

I consider "big files" to refer to files exceeding 50Mb. The risk with RAID 0 is that if one drive fails, the entire set is lost, so this isn't recommendable for sensitive work data
 
Hi JD.

You really don't need RAID.

You will see minimal speed improvements. Rather use only one hard drive, and use the extra cash to wither go i7 or getting more RAM.
This will help a lot with our rendering time, where-as RAID will not.

50MB is REALLY small.

If you were trying to copy 2-4GB at a time, RAID will help, but not the tiny files you're referring to.
 
Thank you guys. I am in the process of selling my motorbike. So as soon as that is over and done with will I be purchasing a new PC.

what program are you using to render? any examples?
