Hey guys,

Looking to buy a computer for multitasking. Got a quote from Cafe Viva, any suggestions? Hows this look:

CM Elite 332 Chassis w/tm R350
Intel core 95-760 2.8 R1999
Intel tom cove H55 R969
Supertalent 2gb ddr3 R349
Seagate 500gb 7200 sata R399
LG24X sata dvd non-light writer R189
ZT GT220 1GB ddr3 625/1580 pci R749

How is the pricing? For multitasking is intel the right choice , amd? , graphics card should be hdmi compatible as im going to be using a 32" lcd full hd tv.

Are you just casually doing Photoshop CS5/FL Studio stuff?

I would recommend that you rather go for something like the following:
M/B: MSI 880GMA-E45 (AMD Socket AM3 with onboard video [hdmi+dvi+vga], USB3 & SATA3) @ ~ R1000
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz @ ~R1900
RAM: 2x 2GB DDR3 1333MHz @ ~R700
Case: CoolerMaster Elite 310 @ ~R350
HDD: 500GB 7200rpm SATA HDD @ ~R400
SATA DVD Writer Drive @ ~R200
PSU: Corsair CX400 @ ~R500
Total: ~R5 000 *
... and when you have more cash, spend that on a decent graphics card that you can use in Photoshop CS5.
* Most of the prices are from WootWare, but I didn't confirm any of these prices, because I roughly know most of them :)
That price includes VAT, but not shipping which will be in the order of R250 since it's insured shipping.

The system that you've posted is OK, but it is not great for multitasking.
In terms of multi-tasking, you should get a CPU with many cores/threads (eg. AMD X6 / Intel i7) and lots of RAM (eg. 4GB+).

IMO, if you're working with those expensive software packages, you should at least set aside R10k for a proper PC (4GB of RAM, SSD, fast graphics card, 6 Core CPU / 4 Cores with HT & separate sound card).
The guy that I bought my 3x 2GB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz RAM from, said that his audio software that he's using required tonnes of RAM, which is why he had to upgrade from 6GB to 12GB of RAM.

You could do that on a i3 quite fine... But ya if you want more cores then like pada said, amd is the cheapest route for 6 core.. But then again even a quad core like the i5 750/760 or 955/965 would be perfect for your needs...

Looks ok, but as already said look into that 6core and get 4gigs ram.

moar ram and decent sound card.
This all depends on what matwes' priorities are. If sound quality was that important, he would've already had a decent sound card that he can just place in the new PC.

help me understand why an expensive graphics card is necessary to display 2d imagery with no motion?

System requirements: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/photoshop/systemreqs/
# 1024x768 display (1280x800 recommended) with qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics card, 16-bit color, and 256MB of VRAM
# Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0

I'd get something like the 5570 or gt250 which has CUDA. You really don't need that much even, but atleast you can play some games then aswell :p

Photoshop needs a good CPU and lots of RAM, FL Studio requires a decent sound card.

forget about the guys chooning you "GFX Card"

Seriously, if you have a good ASIO sound card, nobody will touch you on your studio.

Look, there are certain features in Adobe PS CS5 that requires a decent graphics card. I mean, my brother's GF 7600GS was way too slow for it on my Core i7 940.
Most people can get away without a decent graphics card for PS CS5.

Thanks guys & thanks Pada, how does this sound:

M/B: MSI 880GMA-E45 (AMD Socket AM3 with onboard video [hdmi+dvi+vga], USB3 & SATA3) @ ~ R1000

HDD: 500GB 7200rpm SATA HDD @ ~R400
SATA DVD Writer Drive @ ~R189

Total: ~R4638...

Im buying a 32" inch full hd lcd so will that setup be capable of outputting the required hd video, or should i rather go for 2gb's of ram and get myself a graphics card for around R700?

In terms of photoshop use im currently using CS3, and just learning how to use FL Studio.

I would really advise you not to skimp on the power supply like you've done so far.
If you really don't want to spend much on a power supply, go for the Gigabyte Odin 470. It's actually sad that I have to recommend a Gigabyte Odin PSU.

The onboard video can output Full HD.

Just take note that 1920x1080 resolution is quite low for a 32" screen.
In terms of work efficiency, you would be better off with 2x 23" screens which would be much cheaper than 1x 32" screen.

Thanks , will get that power supply then. The thing is going to be using the 32" for ps3.;

If you're going to be doing photoshop make sure that the screen has a decent contrast ratio. I've got a Samsung that does Dynamic 50 000:1 which reproduces the colours as they come out on paper, so I'm happy with that.

You really DON'T WANT dynamic contrast when you're working with Photoshop!!!!!
