I have duel boot with Windows Vista 64 bit and Windows Server 2008 64 bit..... on boot where the green bar loads for Windows Server 2008, it doesn't start moving and just freezes.

On Windows Vista I use Pinnacle Studio 12 and when I open my project and export my movie it, it also freezes. No blue screen or anything.
So I left it frozen during the night and this morning I reset the computer and then it told me that the CMOS was reset. So I configures the BIOS again and it booted fine to Vista again. It never freezes on boot in Vista, only Server 2008.

My specs are:

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz Q6600
MSI X38 Platinium motherboard
2 x 2GB DDR3 Kingmax 1333MHz RAM
MSI GT9800 512MB graphics card
2 x Seagate hard drives
1 x Maxtor hard drive
Creative Audigy 4 Pro PCI sound card

All latest patches and service packs for software and drivers are installed.

Arg! What is this computer's issue?!

You forgot to mention what cpu you have... :D

Maybe a heat issue? Are the 2 OSes installed on the same drive?

Hi

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz.

Both operating systems are installed on the same drive, but on different partitions on the same drive.

I suspect that this problem is only happening when your high-level RAM is used. So, when you load up Pinnacle Studio 12, wham ... it uses more memory, including the faulty memory chip and your pc freezes.
When Windows Server 2008 boots, it probably tries to use all of the memory available, including the faulty ram chip. Wham .. it freezes.

If you want help testing your PC's memory, get a flashdisk and ask here.

Arg! I had both modules of the RAM replaced/upgraded.

The power supply and graphics card was also upgraded. Power supply is now a 650W. Graphics card only requires 450W.

I'll have to run another RAM test to see if it throughs any errors.

It did this since the start when I purchased the computer. :(

And with all the new upgrades along with it.
