Hi Guys,

I know there are so many threads ou there about this, my hardware differs and it could be a different problem.

Hardware:

E8400, 2x2Gig Corsair XMS2 extreme, Asus striker II formula, CM 750w and newly purchased HD 4870x2 :)

Obviously, the pc ain't starting, so no bios updates. I have a 6600gt, but even with that, it ain't booting.

The 4870x2 has 5 LEDs, for left to right,[ ][ ][x][x][x] (x meaning it is on the whole time.) The fan is turning very slowly. I have tested everything and the only other think I don't have to swop out is the power supply, but the manual says I need a 650w at least...

By the By, anyone live close to carlswald spar?

Sounds like a lack of power. Do you have an extra PS that you can test with? I live close if you need one :D

Where is carlswald spar?
I also think its a PSU problem...Try swopping it out.
Only other thing could be is incorrect MB jumper settings?

It's probably not a power problem.
Did the graphics card come with a special power adapter?

Have u taken all components out, like graphics etc, and started the machine?
Does it work then?
Take out 1 stick of RAM, try that, unplug the HDD and try start with just MB running?

Let me know.
Midrand is a bit too far dude...

The suggestion about fiddling with the RAM is a good one. When I upgraded a few months ago, my PC wouldn't boot. After I took the RAM out and put it back in again, it was fine.

One other thing: I don't know why, but some PC configurations have problems with specific PSUs. Last year when I bought a new graphics card I upgraded my PSU at the same time. Wouldn't boot. Took the PSU back to IC and they tested it and it was fine. Bought a different model (cheaper, different manufacturer, lower wattage) and it worked fine. *shrug*

Take the cmos battery out for a few minutes, whilst unplugging psu.
Put back, supply power and try booting again.

I have replaced everything, except for PSU. PSU was good for 2x 8800GTXs, though....

But not that MB...
Trust me here...try a different PSU.

A more powerful one doesn't really make a difference.
Most PC's can run on a 500w PSU

Taken from a site i found:

Component Requirement
AGP Video Card 30W - 50W
PCI Express Video 100W - 250W
Average PCI Card 5W - 10W
DVD/CD 20W - 30W
Hard Drive 15W - 30W
Case/CPU Fans 3W (ea.)
Motherboard (w/o CPU or RAM) 50W - 150W
RAM 15W per 1GB
Processor 80W - 140W

Then obviously add whatever your card needs...

For overall power supply wattage, add the requirement for each device in your system, then multiply by 1.5. (The multiplier takes into account that today's systems draw disproportionally on the +12V output. Furthermore, power supplies are more efficient and reliable when loaded to 30% - 70% of maximum capacity.)

@ben dover, What do you mean by "But not that MB..." All I changed was the display card. Then nothing worked and I tried almost everything. All I can't change is the power supply, cause I don't have anything stronger than a 750w.

Is this a brand new pc? Has it booted before? If not, it could mean that your motherboard needs a BIOS update to recognise the CPU.

It worked with other display cards. I just bought a new one and now it ain't working... Can't do a bios update.
