Computer peripherals?

Curious what your workplace looks like in terms of computer peripherals.

Did you spend your own money buying better mouse/keyboard/whatever?

If so what did you get & why?

[Not strictly Software & Dev Q...but seems like good fit anyway]
 
Been rocking company issue ultrabook + wired cheap logitech mouse.

Thinking of buying a wireless mouse & KB...

100 bonus points for anyone that knows of a silent full sized KB. Preferably with low travel.
 
I just have a HD 23", a Logitech K360 wireless keyboard, and power supply at the office and home, and then carry my Logitech marathon mouse. Makes life a little easier and consistent.

I would like to get a 1440p monitor, but my current notebook only has hdmi

Company gave laptop so had to request mouse and keyboard, but the mouse was crap so bought my own. Can't use a mouse without at least 1 side button.
 
Yes I did spend extra (but that's because because my home is my office), at my primary workarea 27" iMac; I like to use a Das keyboard and a Magic Trackpad 2; travelling or working at a client it's a Macbook Pro 15" with a full size Apple keyboard and a older Magic Trackpad.

The Das however can't be described as silent re its mechanical switches; for something silent you probably want a chiclet style switch (like a laptop), for example: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-wireless-elite-v2-desktop-p-qb355aa-abl--1

Why would HDMI not be able to handle 1440p? :confused:
Post 2009 it should be HDMI v1.4 at least which has 4k support.

looks like you do need a "1.3" cable.

Yes. I have an MSI GS70 laptop (self funded), Macbook Pro 13" (self funded) and 2 Logitech gaming mice that I switch between the two. One G602 that wife bought me and one G302 that I won from MyGaming. I also have a SteelSeries APEX keyboard that I plug into the 2 when I want some REAL work done.

Just a note: I work from home 25% of the time (when I do actual dev work). The rest of the time I'm out at clients (relationship building, sales meetings, requirements scoping, etc) or at the office for meetings and catching up on my devs' work.
 
*thread update*

Bought a wireless mouse, wireless keyboard and a laptop stand.

Can absolutely kick myself for not doing so sooner. Makes a huge difference (screen is now a good 30cm further up = better posture).

First day on new keyboard was a little dicey though (used to a slightly shrunk ultrabook keyboard - low travel)...now on full sized loud logitech keyboard. That'll take a couple days getting used to it.

<400 zar...wtf why didn't I do this 3 years ago.
 
Dell Latitude, 2x Dell 23", Coolmaster Quickfire XT Cherry Brown (wish i got blue), Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 5000 (desperately needs upgrade)
 
Pretty normal wired keyboard and mouse for me. Monitors are important though - 6x Dell 30" 2560x1600 monitors.
 
At the office:

MSI GP72 upgraded ram, m.2 SSD + 27" Dell + normal logitec mouse ( contemplating and upgrade)

At home:

Desktop, 2 x 24" IPS screens, G510 Keyboard ( yet to find any keyboard that matches this in terms of macros ), not kidding I want to buy a wireless keyword and throw this away, but I can't it's just so god damn awesome. Then a Tt eSPORTS Black v2 mouse also looking for a replacement, I am concidering this Razer MAMBA

Jesus, I missed this one. (running a surveillance NSA node?)

If you adopt me, I make good coffee, I can prepare braai broodtjies and I am good with bringing the atmosphere.

Heh - I have occasionally lost the mouse cursor, and if I have too many white background windows open, it feels like I'm looking into the sun (coding background is all black). The struggle is real! ;)

I am happy to have found a company that realizes that the hardware you use is a cost-effective investment. 6 monitors is approx. $7k. $7k over 5 years is about $1.4k/year. Assuming it makes me just 1% more productive by meeting my optimal "way I like to work" needs, and also avoiding morale destroying "my company skimps nonsensically" actions, all I would have to earn is $140k/year for them to break even. As it stands, I am sure, that my setup contributes to at least 5% higher productivity, and I earn a lot more than $140k/year, so it's an absolute no brainer for them. Despite all of this being true at my last company too (salary and potential productivity increase), for whatever reason they made it nearly impossible to upgrade my desktop hardware. I found myself using old monitors, CPUs, hard disks, etc. despite being fairly senior - it made absolutely no sense, given what they were paying me.
