I am not sure if this is under the right heading.
My PC seems to be playing up something chronic today. It switches off on its own it wouldn't connect to the internet and jams up. It goes into a kinda safe mode where i have to reboot the computer and then it comes right.
i looked at the memory of the pc and it says normal memory is on 78mb and virtual memory is 2008mb, i dont know if this has anything to do with it as i dont know how a pc works.

what can be wrong?

windows... I think you might have a virus that is attacking your win32 files and such... when you get into your pc again, get all the important data and then just format, re-install windows and you good :D

The Switching off by itself could be a problem with heat so make sure your pc is not over heating.

jams up? looked at the memory of the pc and it says normal memory is on 78mb and virtual memory is 2008mb

Explain better please so that we have more to work with.

yeah
especially in the heat waves we've been having,
check your BIOS for the temperature your processor is running at

I have had serious issues in the past with Avast, I would uninstall Avast and see if that fixes it, personally I would go with AVG free ver.

78MB RAM? Maybe time for a little memory upgrade?
Switching off is a heat issue... usually. So feel the side of your pc. It should not be hot at all.

ok will check for heat tonight, is it possible that there is not enough memory to run the programmes i have on my pc, hence the physical memory question?

Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system information. That should give a good indication.

You have a 32-bit Windows.... 32-bit can only recognise up to ~2.5GB of RAM.
