Please forgive me if I’m posting in the wrong section.
I’m from Cape Town and i would like to do a degree in Computer Science. I would like to do it in a classroom environment so Unisa is out of the question. What other credible universities offer this degree in a classroom setup and is internationally recognized ???

Thanks in advance

Stellenbosch is also not too far away.

Best IT institutions are IMHO:
Stellenbosch
UCT
University of Pretoria
Rhodes
Unisa

I don't think much of Limpopo or Potch's degrees (have seen the work they do and it is sub-standard IMHO).

As others have mentioned, UCT is a pretty obvious choice. Of course it's not cheap either but will get a decent education. Don't knock UNISA, taught me a thing or three. Although understand your need for classroom learning, can make a big difference.

I cant seem to find a Rhodes University in Cape Town.......How do you guys rate UWC degree ?

Where you get a degree is irrelevant to future employers. Do one anywhere close and sufficiently reputable and while you're doing it, make small things along the way. Build up a portfolio. By the time you finish, you will have enough credibility and experience (open source also goes A LONG WAY) to get a job without a problem.

Sorry for going a bit off topic but do you have any recommendations on the little extras?

Well I have a Honours Degree in Computer Science from UWC and I work for a huge international IT company. They recruited me straight out of university. Many of my other friends who have graduated from there also have great jobs. The quality of the students has really increased in the last few years.

In my eyes, a degree is only as good as you are. A UCT degree will no doubt open doors for you, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a UWC degree. In certain respects, UWC is at the forefront of various aspects of research. In regards to Sign Language translation systems using Computer Vision (one of their post-grad fields of research), the UWC Computer Science Department is doing excellent work - http://www.cs.uwc.ac.za/~mghazi/iSign/.
