Hi,

We use Itunes on the computer to manage all our music. I need to upgrade the sound on the computer - been useing onboard sound with old creative labs speakers.

Any recomendations?

Not more than say R3000. Must include card and speakers.

SBLIVE24-EXT R 425 Creative® Sound Blaster Live! 24-Bit USB 2.0 Sound Card - 5.1 Channel Surround Sound Support - Perfect For Gaming, Music & Movies - External

LT-4Z5450W R 2,599 Logitech® Speakers Systems - Z5450 - 5.1 Speakers - 5.1 Surround With THX Certification - Wireless - 315 Watt RMS Speaker System

Escluding VAT :)

If you get the Creative card get the creative speakers to they intergrate with each other and can be remote controlled.
IMO the Creative speakers are better sounding. The high end logitechs are very boomy. Creatives are more crisp.

Maybe something like:

Creative® Inspire T7900 - High End 7.1 Channel Speaker System - 7 Speakers For Full Sound Immersion In Any Application (R1,050)
Creative® Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatality Pro PCI Sound Card - New Xtreme Fidelity - The Gamers X-Fi (R1,495)

Excluding VAT, of course...

Does a sound card really make that much of a difference. I am using on-board outputs from my motherboard and they sound just perfect.

My on-board sound (on my previous motherboard and the one before that) sounded very soft and tinny. The difference between using that and using my sound card is very noticeable...

Can't remember how much it costs, but I've read brilliant reviews of the Asus Xonar sound card.

From the initial post, I really doubt such a high end sound card is necessary.

Can't go wrong with a Creative Live 5.1 card and some nice big 5.1 speakers :D

IMO anything more than 5.1 is a real PITA to set up. 5.1 is enough as it is. Perhaps try wireless speakers (not sure if they're all wireless, normally just the back two).

Perhaps 2.1 for music - as he didn't mention movie or games? I quite those Logitech Z10 - anyone got a price? ;)

If I upgrade, I'm doing decent 2.1 instead of multichannel : I only ever listen to music anyway

Seems like it's music only.
