Computer troubles

I'm having computer troubles... :(

So a few days ago I was on my and it froze so I restarted it and ever since it freezes when I boot up normally. If I go into safe mode it runs fine.

I think I have isolated the problem to my graphics card's drivers. I could be wrong though, it could be the graphics card itself or maybe the power supply??

When I'm in safe mode and I disable the graphics card and boot normally the pc runs fine, albeit at the horrible 1024x1280 resolution :sick:

I've downloaded the latest drivers off the Nvidia website for my graphics card and installed them but upon restart it boots into windows and starts up but then freezes a few moments later again. :(

Anyone got any ideas?

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
RAM: 2GB
CPU: Intel Duo Core E6550 2.33GHz
 
What do you mean by disable the graphics card? Does the motherboard also have a graphics card on it and you're using that one instead? If not, then you are still using the graphics card.

Is your fan on the graphics card working? Does it get really hot when it hangs?
Have you checked if there is perhaps a problem with the computer's RAM using some memory testing software?
 
I personally had a very similar issue with my 8800GTX a while back, a friend did the same with an 8800GTS, both cases we needed to replace the cards..

Sounds like your card is gone to me.

Take it for testing if it still has warranty. My 9800gx2 had the same problem and it was game over for it.

If I go to computer management and right click on my graphics card and say disable then restart then the pc works fine, not changing any cables at the back or anything which is why I think maybe it has something to do with the drivers?

Haven't checked my ram yet and haven't opened the pc up yet so not sure if the fans working or if it gets hot... will check and let you know...

Sigh :( so close to Christmas :(
I wanted something else for Christmas not a new graphics card :D
Don't think its under warranty, quite old...
 
go to devices and delete the graphics card, power off, wait 60 secs, power on. also try upgradingt the driver.

also try start/run msconfig and disable all startups, reboot normally. If this works, enable the disabled apps one at a time until you encounter a problem whereupon you will have found the culprit.
 
I would also investigate your startup programs and services. It's nearly New Year so it may be time for an OS re install anyway :)

In msconfig I said Diagnostic Startup - load basic devices and services only and then rebooted...
This time I got a bsod but it was took quick to note what it said :( :mad:
Going to try replicate it...
 
d7e7r7: when Windows starts, press F8, then you can disable the Automatic Restarting on BSOD
or you can disable it by going to System Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Startup and Recovery and then disable the Automatically restart option.

I managed to get a picture of it, it was a different BSOD this time but I'll post it just now, need to get it off my phone first...
 
Don't know if this will help. When my graphics card died a long time ago it didn't freeze but the screen would turn off automatically after a few minutes of operation. I've recently been having the same problem as you and I found the problem to be the new Avast antivirus. Went to safe mode uninstalled and the pc booted normally.
 
Do the f8 thing when booting, then choose vga mode, this should allow you toat least boot up, albeit you won't have a pretty display. If you do boot it points at your card

I can boot into Safe mode with networking and it runs fine...
Going to see if I can reinstall windows on a 60gig drive i had lying around...

The usual cause is drivers or hardware failure.

I've had the pleasure of finding out what the 0x00000007b error meant yesterday, when I tried to install Windows XP on a SATA drive connected to an Asus P7H55D-M Evo motherboard.
After the 3rd attempt I've managed to install Windows, simply because WinXP setup didn't include the AHCI drivers...

I'll let you know tomorrow wrt the OS... need to put the drive into the pc because it won't install via usb :D

How do the bets thing work :o The higher the number? The lower the number? I'm not that clued up on betting odds...
 
Basically 1/4 means you card will 9/10 times be stuffed.

7/1 is decent odd for driver if you want to make some money and 500/1 well that basically in the bookie world means that will be virtually impossible :D
