Would it be possible to just write A+ or N+ at a prometric test venue after self study, or do you have to study the course through a college or such?

You can write with self-study.

you probably mean CompTIA, and it costs a lot (like R1200 per test for A+, but I'm not sure about the prices now) so if you doing self study, do not take the tests lightly.

Not sure if the tests are still adaptive but they are harder... for example you get 20 questions but if you get one wrong you now have 21 questions, the more you get wrong the more questions you will have...etc...

also each question has a difficult rating with a different score, and you need 720 or something to pass....

there are some downloadable tests like this on the web - www.transcender.com and they are highly recommended so you know what they are like.

study hard and do it, but don't think you know everything ("ag PC's are easy") and go to fail, losing R2400 for a 15 minute testing is something you don't wanna do heheh..

I passed 1st time though, and that was in St9.... but study and you will be fine.
