Concern over 2010 broadcasting

Johannesburg - Incoming SABC chief executive officer Solly Mokoetle expressed concern over the company's readiness regarding broadcasting requirements for next year's Fifa World Cup, in a brief interview on SAFM on Wednesday.

"I'm a little bit worried myself about my ability to delivery that," he said in a news item.

Don't sweat the small stuff Solly - only a few million people will be affected.

Its all FIFA's fault in the first place. SABC is/was a ticking time bomb

meh... If SABC cant handle it, give it to Supersport. Everyone wins :D

They should speak to Telkom...

"Fifa requires 99.99% uptime, but we are delivering 100%..." blah blah blah. That ad really gets to me.

Supersport can do this. No sweat.

So if SABC can't deliver, at least we have a plan B.

Supersport should have gotten the rights anyway. They have some of the best sports broadcasting on the planet.

Just look at the Super 14 and Trinations. The quality of the camera work in the SA games is leagues ahead of the camera work in the Aus and NZ games. Even the European coverage is bad in comparison.

Just because SS film/broadcast, doesnt mean the general public cant watch. At least they are able to deliver. IMO all they have to do is broadcast it as per usual on all the SS channels, then give SABC a delayed broadcast or even a concurrent broadcast, that SABC can pay for (its not like broadcasting for the SABC is free anyway). SS could even open up MNet like they used to for "open-time". There are no excuses for non-delivery.

Yes government could allow it for the duration of the world cup. I dont see it happening, however all I am saying is there really are alot more choices than SABC or nothing.
